Steve Rogers was cautious when he got home. the more he thought about it, the more he wasn't looking forward to seeing what was in these folders. He was afraid of what became of his friends. The people who trusted him to help win the war, and then he left them. He hated thinking that he was frozen all that time when he could have helped fight. And after the war he could have settled down in an era he was familiar with. He could have gone to a nice little cabin in the middle of nowhere with Peggy-- Steve sat down at his kitchen table, the room completely silent as he stared at the closed folder. And then, with a sigh, he opened it. Name: Howard Stark D.O.B.: XXXX Status: Deceased Steve kept reading about the man he grew to respect. He seemed to have more interest in firearms after the war, starting Stark Industries as the lead company in weapons and technology... He knew he helped found S.H.I.E.L.D.... There were even comments on him having a baby boy named Anthony... but the part that interested him was the last part. "Mister Stark was assassinated while driving with his wife. Presumed to be the XXXXXX XXXXXXX." Who killed them? And why was their name crossed out? Steve then went through all of the Howling Commandos, the team that Steve Rogers lead back in the day. The finest men he had ever met, all from different backgrounds with all different perks... They were great men, and would have followed Steve to hell if he said so... Then his heart stopped as he saw a picture of an angel. Name: Margaret "Peggy" Carter D.O.B.: XXXX Status: Deceased Steve read every inch of her report. All the things she accomplished in her military career, the things he remembered her doing, how the files said she fought alongside Cap... It was a bittersweet moment when he saw that she continued a life, and married... One of the only reasons why Steve Rogers still works for S.H.I.E.L.D. isn't because he thinks they are doing the right thing, or they are the good guys... but because Peggy helped found the place... He gently put his finger tips on the picture, longing to touch her velvet skin... Before Steve could do anything else he quickly turned the page to the last ones of the file. ]Name: Captain Steven Grant Rogers, U.S. Army A.K.A.: Captain America D.O.B: July 4th, 1918; Brooklyn, New York Status: KIA, Artic Ocean, 1944 The rest of the pages were all about Steve. All his acts, where he was born, where he lived before he became a Super soldier... Most of the stuff was covered in black ink (probably Fury's doing), and then there was notes on the serum and the side effects. "Role model for starting the Supreme Headquarters, International Espionage, Law-Enforcement Division." Steve laughed a bit. That's what it was called before 1991. This showed how dated these files were... Now S.H.I.E.L.D. stood for the Strategic Hazard Intervention Espionage Logistics Directorate... Then he noticed something. A piece of paper clipped to the back. He knew that hand writing. He held his breath as he read the comments of him by Miss Margaret Carter. Captain Steve Rogers was perhaps the greatest... and sweetest man I have had the opportunity to meet. If you would have shown me him pre-serum and said he would be the symbol of hope for everyone, I wouldn't have believed it... If I had spent only five minutes with the man after that claim, I would have agreed with them almost immediately. He was a gentleman. A soldier. but most of all, he was still that man with desire to have everyone safe. He saved countless lives in prisoner camps in the war... One of those lives would eventually have been my husband. I hope he's proud of what we do... The only complaint I have about him is his ability to be late... He still owes me a dance. Steve immediately shut the file, got up, and put a hand over his mouth, looking around, fighting the urge not to break down. He was strong. He went through a lot more... She would have probably made a friendly tease at him crying anyway... Steve looked at the clock, noticing how long he went through everyone's files... and his advanced hearing could hear something actually very familiar... Curious Steve walked towards the door, and opened it. Sharon's apartment door was open, and inside he could hear Louie Armstrong, one of his favorites while growing up. Steve smirked a bit, and walked over to her door, peeking in. He saw the very beautiful blonde dancing and hoping around. Steve thought that this was the most adorable thing he has ever seen. Steve knocked on the door frame, hoping she wouldn't be angry at him for being curious. "Excuse me, Miss. The neighbors are already complaining about the noise." Steve said jokingly. "But don't worry, I told them to go take a hike, because you can't turn down a legend." Steve said with a smile, looking at her. "I thought a lot of people would think this is way too old fashioned now a days..."
