Is smoking illegal in this world?
No, I meant when you were in the launch bay, you were on duty.
I was under the assumption that it would be considered a minor disciplinary misdemeanor, not an act of terrorism.
Crimes aren't classified as either minor infraction or terrorism, there's a whole spectrum. But the main reason you'd be in a great deal of trouble is because you are supposed to uphold and enforce the law. You are held especially accountable for breaking it.
I also was under the assumption, that, since our characters are supposed to be young (15-20) they would be in some sort of training, and not actually be leading the nation.
True, our characters aren't leaders, but the Consortium is the governing body of the Protectorate. Again, things aren't "this or that." Just because you work for the government, doesn't mean you're a senator.
But I'm still not sure about the whole smoking thing. I mean, is your character secretly smoking cigarettes? Or is smoking not actually illegal, but it's more of a status thing and would be frowned upon?
It's more about where you're doing it than that you're doing it. I also was under the assumption that your character was smoking something a little stronger than tobacco. Which is a double no-no when on duty(so just don't get caught).
As for the weapons, wouldn't people with powers be able to handle someone with guns? I.E someone with fade just having the bullets pass through them/someone with geolancy blocking them/etc
Your powers are finite, especially in the beginning. Later, when your character is stronger, you can probably get away with not using a gun. But right now, you would die.
Like in X-men- the mutants make short work out of soldiers and never use guns to fight other mutants.
That's because it's a comic book. In real life(even allowing for their powers) bullets would work pretty fucking good against most mutants. I can think of a few exceptions, but there are powers in this world that would make you effectively bulletproof too.
If someone can shoot fireballs and fly, a gun would be... Unnecessary.
On the contrary, a gun would be useful as fuck if you could fly. How effectively do you think fireballs would kill people? Because I think you're drastically overestimating fire's stopping power.
But if you want to make it a requirement, can I make it like a cool ass revolver like in Fallout? Or does it have to be an assault rifle/similar heavy weapon?
I wouldn't really qualify an assault rifle as a heavy weapon, but you can use a freaking bow if you want. Just think carefully about what kind of weapon you want to have when you're being shot at. Trap: I left that out on purpose, do not add it in. I said this to Sage in a PM so I'll repeat it here: All the characters have basically the same backstory, the only thing you could add to it is how they feel about their situation/life. You can make that apparent through IC posts, there's no need to describe it. Ispep: It's... awkward and impractical. I guess you could with the technology of the world, but you wouldn't be allowed to. Part of Ascendant philosophy is a detachment from your body. It wouldn't make much sense for one to modify theirs at all, let alone in such an extreme way.
