Name: Nara Shiō, Kage Gekai (Shadow Surgeon) Age | Gender: 22 | Female Alliance: Pending Rank: Chunnin Clan: Nara Kekkei Genkai: None Traits: Shiō possesses impeccable control over her chakra, coupling well with her intelligence. Like her brother, she lacks physical strength, but does have an understanding of close range combat and is highly agile. She has a relatively skilled sensor with natural sensory range much greater than her brother. Appearance: Shiō is similar in appearance to her brother. Despite three years his junior, she is often mistaken as his twin - the only key difference being her blue eyes. She stands at about 5'8" with dark brown hair typically typed back in a practical singular ponytail. Her attire varies, but coloring tends to fair on the dark side of things. For formal events outside of her work, she prefers a dark grey kimono with silver-blue trimming and a petal motif at the bottom. For more practical events, she has multi-pocketed canvas jackets ranging a variety of colors. For pants, she consistently is seen in a dark, charcoal grey. History: Shiō began her training as a medical shinobi at the age of ten having had an interest in medicine all her life. Touzoku, the mother of her brother's best friend, and a skilled medical shinobi, took her under her wing and began training her in the field. She devoured everything she could readily, using her clan techniques as a practice for her chakra control. When she began learning Shosen and Chakura no Mesu, she was able to quickly develop rudimentary versions of them at an early age; these would be skills she would carry into her later years. Shiō was the only member of her immediately family not to work in logistics during the war. A trained medical shinobi, Shiō was responsible for providing medical services for the resistance, along with the others trained in the medical arts. It was the closest any from her family got to the 'front' of the conflict - and largely why they remained in tact. Her sensei, Touzoku, took a position in the field, leaving her apprentice in one of the bases of operation for the resistance. The parting was tough for both, with Touzoku telling her how proud she was of Shiō. Shiō's effort was very much a learn as you go experience. With those trained in medical arts getting in rarer supply, Shiō had a significant amount of autonomy. She completed her first surgery by herself a week into her joining the resistance, which resulted in the death of the young man she was trying to save. She would go on to lose four other patients in her tenure with the resistance, one shortly after the death of the first. Frustrated with her inexperience, she spent much of her time out of surgeries to study what information that she had available. Outside study, however, was limited almost strictly to surgical techniques. The nature of the resistance dictated that she would be largely unable to explore much about medicine, creating a gap in her knowledge on the subject matters of immunology, toxicology, and other fields. For the most part, her development as a medical was solely on the techniques she knew going into the experience. Those techniques have become some of her most refined over the course of continued use and practice. When her ability as a sensor was uncovered, she was given additional duties to ensure that their base of operations remained secret by scouting the surrounding areas with her sensory abilities. It proved to be an unnecessary precaution, as their base was never uncovered, but she got to witness deaths even when she wasn't in surgery - their chakra vanishing permanently. She was extremely isolated during this time. Her only companion was a messenger falcon she called Hiyō, who ferried messages for her to and from her family. They had developed a complex code in the event he was ever intercepted, but Hiyō was reliable for her, managing to avoid capture the entire time. Hiyō became her confidant, even when he wasn't carrying messages, and often perched himself on medical stands when she was in surgery. She considers him a good luck token considering she hasn't lost a single patient since she adopted the practice of being Hiyō with her. It was around this time that she began experimenting with usages of her Hiden in surgery, leading her to develop her ability to preform surgery in pitch black, using her Hiden for extra 'hands' during her procedure. This allowed her to move quick enough during surgeries to save patients she might not have been able to save before. The case that haunts her the most is the case of Suukei, her sensei's son, and her brother's best friend. During one of the final efforts to reclaim Konoha, Suukei was brought in. He had mutilated his own eyes, destroying them completely. He was left to bleed to death before being brought in. Unable to save him, Shiō watched him die in front of her with his blood covering her body. She said nothing of Suukei's death to her brother and kept it a secret, telling only Hiyō. When they managed to retake Konohagakure, Shiō was hesitant to return. She spent the first month after the retaking of Konoha in the various outlying lands, providing what medical services she could. Returning to Konoha meant that she would have to see the remnants of the families she had failed to save. She currently serves as a surgeon for the village of Konohagakure, having been given the nickname "Kage Gekai" by her colleagues, given her preference to preform surgeries in pitch black. Personality: Shiō is intelligent, but often blames herself for things outside of her control. She does not accept failure well and will obsess over the failure until she reaches the conclusion that it was outside of her control - she still reviews two of her cases from the conflict on a regular basis in order to figure out what she did wrong. She keeps meticulous records, having patient files far more expansive than many of her colleagues. She enjoys learning and wants to expand her knowledge into other realms of medicine. Similar in practice to Kage Yose (Shadow Gathering), Kage no Te is use to grip tangible objects. At short range, Shiō is capable of using this without focusing entirely on the technique, allowing her to use her hands freely. When extending anywhere outside of three feet around her, she must concentrate solely on the technique, but it can be used to grip objects outside of the three feet bounds. Drawbacks: Cannot be used to pierce flesh or grip anything outside particular bounds without focusing entirely on the technique. Jutsu Name: Kage Yochi (Shadow Prediction) Jutsu Type: Ninjutsu (Hiden) Effective Range: N/A Nature Type: N/A Descriptions: Kage Yochi was an unnamed technique developed by Shiō to allow her to see in the dark as if it were normally lit. Many Resistance operations were done at night, making medical triage in darkness a necessity. The technique was given the name by a patient who woke up startled after medical procedure and lunged at her with a kunai, which she subsequently avoided, even while tending to his leg wounds. Surprised she avoided the attack, he asked if she could see the future. She merely explained to him that she was trained not to get hit and that she could see in the pitch black. Drawbacks: Offers nothing other than seeing in the dark. Drains chakra when activated. --- Weaponry: Shiō's utilizes a number of poisoned senbon in combat, opting for them instead of shuriken. However, Shiō's senbon are made from part of her brother's Daiō shuriken, allowing them to be embedded into shadows to pin down an opponent. She also carries around an umbrella with a black canopy with silver-grey kanji adorning it, the handle and support structure is made of a darkly stained cherrywood. Umbrella is special in that the shadow cast from it is infused with her chakra, allowing her to manipulate its volume as well. Because of her chakra, it is a bit more resilient to basic weaponry than a standard umbrella. She typically uses paralytic toxin, that in enough quantities will paralyze an opponent. She does carry syringes of this toxin as well. Misc: When she isn't reading medical books, she spends a lot of her spare time playing a reed pipe. She has a messenger falcon that she bonded with during the conflict that she has adopted as a pet, which she keeps along with her two cats.
