Simple things are fine. You want there to be a river? That's cool, I like rivers. Just don't like, spontaneously decide to have some huge thing happen, like an alien evasion or something wacked up like that. Small things like rivers and the rain letting up let me know I need to start something, cause you guys want something interesting to RP.
