Name: Marianne De Bellegarde Age/DOB: 17 February 1928 (15) Gender: Female Physical Description: Skills: -Diplomacy, Marianne is a natural at calming down potentially violent situations when she herself isn't too afraid to stand up. -Status, she is also the daughter of the late mayor as well as the adoptive daughter in all but name of the almighty Oberst of the town, the colonel in charge of the occupation, as such the germans (those familiar with the colonel at least) tend to be lenient with her. -Speaks english, a second language is nothing too much for the daughter of a mayor. -Speaks german, courtesy of the colonel Serclaes of the SS. History: When the germans came, of course they couldn't be expected to command the population from any place, it would be the town hall! And of course, you couldn't expect their officers to reside anywhere but the finest house in town, which was the Chateau also owned by the mayor. Bernard and Joséphine de Bellegarde didn't really have the choice to accept this fact and simply be happy that they weren't expelled from their homes, the germans even paid for the food they ate! All of this and of course the collaboration of Bernard did a lot to make the De Bellegarde seem like collaborators, leaders like Pétin, German lovers, hell, they even dusted out the old family genealogical tree to find germanic roots dating back to the Holy Roman Empire and Charlemagne, proving they were Aryans indeed. This did not last forever (In Bernard's case anyways), since it was discovered he used his proximity with Oberst Serclaes's HQ to communicate with the Résistance information about the Germans. He was of course executed. This is where things became complicated for Marianne, she had been convinced her parents were pro-germans and thus had the thought that maybe they were not so bad, hell, apparently she was germanic herself! Plus, the Oberst had taken quite the liking in her while he resided in the house, but above all, he had taken quite the liking in Joséphine, now Bernard's widow and it seemed like she liked him back. Guess she had a new German step-father now. At least it was until Joséphine took a moment to have a private talk with Marianne, demanding she took some notes she had taken about the germans to one of her father's old contact. At first she didn't want to, saying that this was suicide, that they were better staying down. Joséphine admitted that she slept with the Oberst despite how disgusted she was by the man who killed her husband and that this had to mean something, she couldn't just do it for survival and if Marianne didn't take this to the Résistance, then it was meaningless and she would just stab the fucker in his sleep. At this point, Marianne had been more or less drafted in the Resistance. Psychological Profile: She isn't a fighter and while she can mingle with both the germans and the french, saying what each party wants to hear, she truly is just trying to survive, have her mother survive and in general get this business to cost the life of as less people as possible. She's a cynic and still considers things from both side of the fence and after all Serclaes told her about the Versaille treaty and to consider facts like how the French have a huge colonial empire to support them and the Germans never had any, as well as the horrors of communism, she can't help but to feel the Germans are still human beings that were wronged and that French people would have done the same in their place. She simply is non-violent, even after Serclaes killed her own father, she may resent him for that, but she wouldn't like to see him, or anyone, die. Relatives/Relations/Contacts: -Joséphine De Bellegarde: Barely even leaves the Chateau anymore, since everyone in town calls her the whore of the Colonel, but is still quite a valuable asset to the Resistance in secret. -Oberst Gottfried Serclaes: Colonel in the SS and chief occupier of the town, joined the Nazi party when Hitler was in prison, a cultured and polite gentleman that truly believes that the French are great people like the Germans, but has a zealous hate of the jews, gypsies and other 'trash'. Likes to reference Parsifal, Lohengrin and german mythology in general. Is extremely convinced that the Germans are working for the whole good of Europe and that French and Germans are brothers merely divided by borders, both were after all of the same Carolingian Empire.
