The classroom is huge, and she's a very soft-spoken Indian woman. 

The combination of a soft voice, thick accent, and 20%+ hearing loss / tinnitus means that I had no idea what the hell she was talking about. Plus there's a storm rolling in and the AC was broken, so I crammed in a room full of sweaty freshmen in the Northeast Oklahoma humidity.
