In Magus's defense, he doesn't really know what the big deal is. He wasn't walking around Hyrule during the reign of the dark king, nor was he raised with stories about how horrible those years were. Sure, he did some research into the subject on his own time but any historian knows how much myth and legend blows the reality out of proportion; Not to mention all the horrible tales and stories that people tell each other that weren't true but they believed to be so.
