This future world is almost entirely urbanized, at least on land. As far as the eye can see, which isn’t far, there is industrial wasteland, with the vast majority of people living in cramped apartments and often struggling to make a living. The most successful members of this new society are corporations. They have grown to massive sizes as they’ve swallowed their smaller competitors and found more ways to force people to pay more for their services. They’ve snuck their powerful influence into governments all over the world. Police forces have grown to mini-armies, using whatever brutality they want to. Most importantly, however, genetic research has prospered. Well, some would say prospered. In its early days, it was aimed at the eradication of lethal genetic diseases, and it was often a miraculous success. Eventually (About thirty-five years prior to the roleplay), scientists were paid to develop the ‘Safety and Security’ project. Human genes were engineered so that their bodies could not produce certain vital amino acids. A system developed in which excessive police brutality wasn’t needed: Anyone who resisted their government could now be denied these amino acids, causing them to die a slow and painful death that usually would take days. Along with this development came a new type of discrimination. Any person who possessed the gene, and was therefore able to make their own amino acid, was required to wear an armband that marked this “disorder”. They were targeted by endless propaganda telling citizens everywhere to beware. They began to face sickening harassment from the police forces, as well as job and housing discrimination, among other things. Small blood droplet scanners designed to determine the presence of the engineered gene became more and more common, showing up at any office with job interviews, bus and train station, etc. Many of the “Disordered” did not want to put up with this, as they were all too often restricted to degrading jobs and sickening poverty. Some began to call themselves “Whole” and created an underground network of them, working with certain “Ordereds” to overthrow the corrupt government. There are even scientists on their side, synthesizing black-market versions of missing amino acid for “Orderly” rebels. Notes: Technologies other than genetic engineering are common. There are cybernetics and bionic eyes and technologies that reroute motor signals from the brain to an otherwise disabled limb. Obviously, your character can have things like this, but common sense. I wouldn’t be pleased to see shoulder-mounted missiles or something. With the above note in mind, the rebels do have a lot of illegal weapons, and other contraband, such as, wait for it...books. A lot of the underground resistance is literally underground, with secret entrances in houses, abandoned buildings, etc. Ordered; Genetically engineered so that they lack a gene that produces one kind of vital amino acid. Often in existence because of in vitro fertilization, artificial incubation, and/or surrogate mothers. Disordered/Whole; Not genetically engineered. Produced the old fashioned way, if you know what I mean. The amino acid (whichever one it may be) is delivered to people’s homes in the form of an ordinary pill bottle with a month’s supply. They usually wear devices that remind them to take the pills if they forget. (Illegal) research in gene therapy is bordering on allowing the Ordered to become Whole, but the treatment process will be long and dangerous because it weakens immune systems. This can occur later in the roleplay. Rules: 1. No one liners with crappy English. At least a post with two lines. (We understand that sometimes it’s difficult to write a huge amount.) 2. Minimum character age is 15. 3. Do not kill other characters without permission 4. If you go away for more than four days, let a GM/Co-GM know. Otherwise, your character may not get his dose of amino acid. 5. Datadogie is the Co-GM of this RP. Other Co-GMs may be appointed, but as of the the creation of this RP, he is my right hand. Do not ask to be a Co-GM. 6. I reserve the right to add rules. 7. Your character can be an obedient member of society or a rebel. We’re open. 8. You can have as many characters as you can effectively roleplay, so you're the judge of that. 9. Please put ‘Ratte Factory’ in your CS to confirm you have read the rules 10. Have fun.
