"It's not that hard. To just let go, and see the world for what it really is. It's a mean, hard thing that takes all the colors of the spectrum and blurs them into a fine-grey ambiguity. Less poetically, it pushes us toward morals; toward ethics. The choices we make decide our place in the world, in the cosmos. And whether we like it or not, a time for choices is coming."
The world is vast and growing and full of life. People go to college, people go to work, people go on dates. People live their lives. But they do so never knowing, never understanding a piece of our Earth. A beautiful, abstract piece that you can't see in the air or in space or in the ground. It's magic. It's magic and it tastes like everything that's been missing in your life. Magicians, they're called; the small fraction of the population that can manipulate this glorious, unknown force. Normal people can't touch magic. Not because they weren't chosen, or because they don't have enough of the arcane in their genes; everyone has the potential for magic. This inherent ability, however, needs to be released somehow; channeled. Withdrawn. Extracted. Pulled out. Needless to say, more than three quarters of the Earth's population is unable to use its most precious of gifts. This same portion is mostly unaware that something such as it even exists. The rest, the Magicians-- they've mostly blended into society. Some explore magic and see how far they can take it, or what it can do. Some take it competitively and manipulate the economy, or stocks, or battle behind-the-scenes during elections. Some live life normally, and use magic for their everyday hassles. Others yet try to spread magic and convert regular people into Magicians, to help grow the ranks. In the end, they themselves are a part of the Earth's normality; they live in whatever roles they've placed themselves in, questioning God and marrying and dying off like anyone else. In the end, magic doesn't bring much to most but an added excitement. And yet, those without it are clearly missing something. Something essential.

The world is in conflict with itself. Lands are disappearing and magic is being rewritten. Strange, incomprehensible prophecies are presenting themselves to us as carvings in sand, rearranged sentences in letters, or disappearing graffiti warnings. Rumors have circulated that all but the magical would laugh at; rumors of animals seeking sanctuary from invisible forces, or of men suddenly floating away in their sleep. You, the Magicians (mostly), have to do something about this. No one recognizes this looming threat, or accepts that anything bad is happening. You must transcend beyond the natural boundaries of magic as you attempt to save it. There will be other Magicians in opposition to you, and a great many riddles and lorebeasts to slay. Dimensions to explore. Love to be had. Understanding to be found. We Magicians know so little; let's explore and learn about ourselves, magic, and the world. And maybe save it along the way.
