Slice of Life is pretty much a realistic, "day to day" style roleplay. No fantasy, no Sci Fi, nothing but realism. Personally, I find it quite dull, but some people have the will to make it interesting. 
Some, well many Slice of Life roleplays are based in school settings from what I've seen around here. I wouldn't know about many others.
