Sometimes jokes need to be said because the situation is calling for them. Sometimes it's the opposite, and the blatantly obvious joke is just not very funny because everyone is expecting it to be said.

I would like to think that there are specific situations for both, but much more likely is the fact that this whole idea is a crock of shit and I'm actually just moody and sporadic.
