The tech is a little confusing. In the original precipice, we sort of matched mid-seventies tech and there was a push to go further because everyone wanted the shiniest stuff they could get. As Precipice found its heart, the new technology began to look a little weird so we retconned it away. Right now, we are officially at the same level in tech that the world was between the end of World War 2 and the beginning of the Korean War. There is, however, no nuclear weapons. That slot in the narrative has been replaced by nerve gas. 

But if you read older posts from other forums, or from the wiki, you'll probably find mentions of tech that is more advanced. Ignore that. We are pretending it didn't happen.
