Thanks for doing this. I agree with everything. I'll work down the list just so people where my mind's at. [quote=Jorick] Official Contests sub-forum - Artist of the Month kinda died a long while ago, but Writer of the Month was still going strong with Brovo, Kagamine, and myself managing it. There's already been some people asking about when it might be up and running again, so it'd be nice to be able to get it going some time in the near future. On old RPG it had the WOTM pseudo-mod account to make things work, but I'm sure we can get by without it until you get the whole moderation shenanigans in order. [/quote] I'm down with this. Since I'm busy this week working on essential things, I can at least create whatever forums yall need if you want to get started. [quote=Jorick]Profile customization - Super obvious, just saying it because nobody else appears to have done so on new Guild yet. Avatars, info about yourself, blah blah blah, typical profile stuff. People also seemed to like having the ability to diddle with their profiles by changing colors and text and the background and whatnot, so I figure it'd probably be cool to MySpace it up again and bring that functionality back once you get the actually important parts of the forum up and running again. [/quote] Agreed. - My first goal with profiles is to make them useful in the first place. Right now I've hardly touched them beyond the edit-user page. For example, since we differentiate between Topics and Roleplays here, I should be able to put together a posting history interface that's convenient to skim. I also have some useful ideas like providing a slot for your old RPGuild username to help old friends reconnect (along with a page that enumerates all the usernames). - I'm cool with Myspacification. Make people regret visiting your profile. [quote=Jorick] Visitor messages/profile wall/whatever - Lots of people seemed to use the hell out of VMs, but I dunno if it'll be really necessary with the new PM system being smart and acting like threads. I'm sure there are people who will still want VMs or something like them even with a good PM system though, so yeah, do whatever with this suggestion.[/quote] Sorta like the difference between a FB wall post and an FB message, to me a VM feels less "intimate" than a PM. Like if you want to flirt with this roleplaying babe, a PM can come on a lil strong. So I don't think they are mutually exclusive either. [quote=Jorick] Friends list and the stalker wall - Friends stuff is another "no shit, sherlock" level feature; could also add shenanigans like a foe list if you feel like it, as I'm sure some would like to use it. The stalker wall (thing that showed all the most recent posts from people on your friends list, was the first tab visible when you went to your own profile) is another thing that I don't know if there's actually any great demand for, but maybe people will want it back? I never used the thing and it annoyed the hell out of me that it was the first thing visible on people's profiles, but this list isn't just about what I want back, so I'll keep it on the list. [/quote] - Definitely a friend's list. I used my vBulletin friends list like a trophy case of legends that hadn't posted in years. It felt mostly aesthetic even though it had a few good privacy features. I think we can do better than that. - The idea behind the stalker wall was on the right track, but it miserably failed. In a forum system, the purpose of friends is so that you can mutually track each other. It's an inventory of the people you know like a speed dial. The friend system should be able to tell you when your friends start an interest check or when they enter a roleplay. When scanning a bunch of interest checks, you should be able to toggle a filter that reduces the set to only those that involve your friends. That's what gives meaning to a mutual friends list. [quote=Jorick] Various BBCode - Whenever BBCode fixing up happens, would be nice to have all the old functionality back. Some of the ones I remember using most were list coding, noparse tags, and video embedding. I'm sure there were others that are missing from what we have now, but I dunno what they were so whatever. [/quote] Yeah, for sure. I feel bad when I see people struggling to organize their posts with the current BBCode as it is. I shouldn't even call it BBCode because it's not.
