Last summer I had a server I was on all summer and I really grew to love it. Knew all the people, did voice calls with them, had all these injokes and maymays (jurbans), etc. Then the server did a reset and I lost all my drive to play. Granted, I got busy in the fall, but there was a bout month gap in there that I just didn't care anymore. I take a while to warm up to a new server and once I get settled resetting kills any momentum and investment I have. Just how I am, maybe it's not so for other people. I think this is a good middle ground.
The trick is, you're not supposed to get that invested in a single game save. I'm super glad that I didn't ruin any of my subsequent Minecraft games after resetting my first epic single player world because of an update. Thank god the Xbox didn't allow you to do that. And the PC doesn't want you to do that either, really. There's a reason you're not typically allowed to do that. There's a reason that most every game ever doesn't let you keep the items from your previous game. I could understand if it was single player Minecraft, but it's not. What's the point of multiplayer if you're not on an even playing field with everyone else? Mega long-term survival is an incredibly niche interest. Some people enjoy the idea of crafting cities with things they've gotten from endless hours of survival. It's more of an exercise in tedium than it is a challenge. In my mind, the absolute funnest part of Minecraft is building yourself anew and working with the limited resources you have. Of course the drive behind this is to one day have everything you could ever need, but after you get to that point the challenging part is over. You're maxed out. Sure, you can get more things, but there really isn't a point. Minecraft not having an ending is an illusion for me. It's fun to work towards the idea of accomplishing every single thing and building an entire world, until it isn't anymore. And the best part about Minecraft multiplayer is seeing who's done what, and who can get the coolest things first. I don't want to play in a game where everything has already been accomplished ... tenfold. And I'm probably not going to after hearing that people are keeping absolutely everything. I'm not in it for the decade stretch. Thanks but no thanks.
