Of course. I myself was mulling over the idea of playing an enlarged... well Syrian Hamster. I mean they have hands, and massive cheek pouches - survival's basic ingredients. 

Playing a standard small sized creature is fine, i.e a little vole. I was going to restrict this at first, but then I thought it'd make things a bit more interesting. Especially as some of my planned zombie types like to burrow, and that other animals will be a threat to little guys. I.e a hawk. So being small conveys no advantages, as far as I can see, so yeah go with whatever.

Bunnnnnnny :D long time no see. A bionic bunny would be absolutely fine! 

I'll hopefully be doing some more work on this today, putting together the OOC and what have you.
