Arty's suggestion is sound but I wouldn't rule that out completely either. I'd have to see it in a sheet but I could see someone turning into a tin woodsman type. They just wouldn't have all the fancy toys and electronics though, more mechanical and industrial than an android would be. 

Or heck you could play a scientist who controls robotic minions.
