Kijani was eating and reading, half paying attention to what was going around her. The story in her hands was an ancient Chinese fairytale, along the lines of the European standard Romeo and Juliet. Star crossed lovers, family at war, all of that. Frankly Kijani found it a little dumb. Why toss your life away just for some guy? She couldn't imagine herself ever feeling that strongly for another human being. It just didn't make sense, but then all of the evidence indicated that love, as a whole, really didn't make sense. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Jack and Katherin being all lovey-dovey. Hopefully this boyfriend business wasn't contagious. When the annoucement came, she briefly lay down her book to finish her meal, before getting up to toss her trash. She snagged two more bottles of water from the cafeteria and started wandering campus in the direction of her first course.
