Espatier is just a fancy word with no dictionary definition. It supposedly originates from the French language [i](I don't speak French,)[/i] and basically means Marine, though people have been using the term as a sort of "Space Soldier" or "Space Marine" 

In the end you're just arguing tomato and tomato. But I see what you mean. Technically Marine refers to water, though in popular science fiction the spaceships are still considered Navy.
