The RP will generally be high casual to advanced so expect to post a bit, but remember that quality is more important than quantity! Also one more important thing before you dive in and see if this is your jig, this NRP will be character focused, you will be telling the story of your nation or organization (or even person) through the eyes of the individuals who are a part of it. [b]Common History[/b] The Human race entered its Golden Age in the year 2224; brimming with hope and ambition the solar system was rapidly settled and exploited. For the first time in forever resources were unlimited, flowing from the asteroid belt like a wellspring that fed all Humanity. Yet perhaps the reason why it was fated to end was that despite all that hope the Earth was still not unified, petty differences still existed and though for a time they were secondary they existed all the same. As the golden age progressed and more and more settlements were formed by all manner of nations the Solar System inevitably became heavily fractured. Still the bubble had not burst, the hopeful fever that took over the human race led to the foremost colonial powers dispatching interstellar expeditions in 2296 with new fast as light engines. Dozens of colony ships set out in the name of this or that, but it was luck, not national ideals that allowed a mere three of these ships to find their destinations. From the North American Union Alpha Centauri was taken in the name of democracy and the free market. Though no habitable planets were found a large and rocky planetoid inhospitable to human life was discovered, and under the surface a home was made. From the Chinese Cooperative Zone Luhman 16 was brought into the fold of the state and the people. Though no habitable planets were in the system, icy and rocky asteroids of variable sizes and some barren worlds were settled and another Chinese Autonomous Zone was born. Finally from the Indian State something special was found, the result of a flook in a satellite scan that was perfectly timed, a habitable planet was located. Though the trip took longer than any other colony expedition that succeeded, the Indian State eventually brought a new Earth to the growing interstellar stage in the name of a fresh beginning. (GM Note: We are debating if intelligent or otherwise aliens are on the habitable, or some other uninhabitable to humans planet. Please add your opinion!) Yet the dawn of a new century brought the darkness that was eventually, inevitably, coming. The Solar war began when the various colonial holdings in the asteroid belt banded together and declared themselves the Independant Belt State. With the very source of human industry and motion at stake most powers declared war immediately, however the North American Union opted for a deal to defend the new state in exchange for sole foreign mining rights. The chaos was immediate; war consumed the Earth like fire as the web of alliances on the planet resulted in numerous seemingly unrelated factions launching attacks against each other. The colonies on Venus refused to get involved; they signed a temporary peace with each other and declared neutrality. In other places though chaos was seen as opportunity by the colonial settlements on Mars who took the road of the belt state and declared the Martian United Government, however this new Martian state was ambitious and as the madness on Earth consumed more and more resources the Martians launched an attempt to size the belt for themselves with the support of the Russian Federation. This campaign was devastating, the settlements on the belt buckled and broke under the large Martian assault, and in one swift stroke it seemed Mars would grab the destiny of Humanity. That however, was not to be. The NAU and its allies launched a surprise assault on Mars in spite of the worsening conditions on Earth. Without mercy the larger Martian settlements were obliterated by bunker buster nukes, the underground cities were turned to ash and pits, by the time the Martian fleet returned to Mars there was nothing. The fleet battle above the world that ensued was made into one to the death by the Martians who had seen their homes from orbit as smoking holes. Nearly every ship involved was destroyed; the NAU had lost hope of winning the war. In retaliation for Mars the Russian Federation launched a nuclear attack on the NAU, and in moments the Earth was consumed by nuclear fire from atomic and asteroid bombings. The Solar system had fallen into darkness. Now alone in the expanse of space as an alliance with a military capacity the colonies of Venus decided to band together. The Venus Republic was born, and its first act was to bar itself from the rest of the Solar system. With 90% of all solar infrastructure and 70% of the Solar population gone the war seemed to mark the end of hope, the colonies were forgotten and every faction focused on staying alive. The Belt state reformed not long after, a shadow of its former self and yearning for revenge it silently rebuilt in anticipation for the day Mars would suffer for its actions. Mars proper blamed the Belt State for the war in entirety, and followed a course that was almost the equal and opposite of the Belt state. As for Earth itself even the madness of the Solar war was not enough for the various people of the world to put aside their differences. Though recovery happened in time there was no singular effort, and war became a constant as it always had been. Earth, the birthplace and home of humanity, was forgotten. Four Hundred years would pass, Venus would become a world of water and green as Earth once was. Prosperous and happy the Venus republic had maintained an internal peace disconnected with the political struggles of the solar system in the aftermath of that terrible war. Still Venus was not isolationist, it had become the focal point of Solar trade and Solar immigration, it was nearly equal to the former Earth in population. Earth itself was lost to history, though it had by and large recovered and even made some advances the population of the planet was barely even one billion. Wars raged on the surface as they had in the past, and the Earth seemed to be a record that had broken to replay the same image again and again. As for Mars and the Belt State, the dreams of revenge for both never materialized even though Mars made progress in terraforming its surface, though not on the level of Venus. The two powers of Mars and the Belt State fought again and again, but nothing was gained and the only result was that the former wellspring of the solar system was cut off and isolated by it and its enemy’s meaningless hatred. The interstellar colonies have continued to exist, they have changed and evolved over time, and recently they have all stumbled across wormhole technology between specified gates on their own. As a result each colony has sent ships fast as light carrying the gates to Sol that in the last few years have arrived at differing times and established instantaneous travel gates between the fringes of the Sol system and their home system fringes at a massive cost that will not be feasible again for decades, this has opened up the first communication between the colonies and between them and the Solar system. Though the Solar war was four hundred years gone the result was that history would never be the same, and for now no new golden age was in sight. [b]FAQ:[/b] Q: Can i ask if we can change something? A: This is an interest check, and it is very rough, so PLEASE give your feedback and input! On that same subject we ask you to please help us elaborate on the planets of the other systems, we want to give you a chance to really shape the setting. Q: How advanced is tech? A: A bit more advanced than before the Solar war for Solar factions, Interstellar factions are variable depending on the player, but generally it is best to stay within an amount of realism. Q:Can I be Venus? A: No, Venus represents our “special case” while you can be an organization on Venus, and influence its government and public that way, total command of it as a faction is currently not allowed Q: The History seems a bit complete, what can i even do? A: As of now, the only (playable) factions with clear (but vague) history in the last 400 years are Mars, and The Belt, that means all the Earth factions, all the trans-belt colonies, and all interstellar colonies are open for whatever modifications you want to make in the 400 years after the Solar War perhaps save the creation of the gates (since this is for convenience), and often you can say what they did during the war too. So most of the factions permit 100% creative freedom. Q: Do we have FTL? A: At the moment all Solar factions have fast as light drives, but those are expensive so 50-80% speed of light drives are used for the majority of every factions space fleet. As for the interstellar colonies, as the need clearly existed they developed wormhole technology independently of the Solar system or each other, however it required massive amount of resources and was limited between pre-established gates. As a result each colony has recently established a small gate on the outskirts of the Solar System connected to a similar gate on the outskirts of their home system, so instantaneous travel between the colonies and the Solar system is possible now, but since the gates are on the solar outskirts a trip still takes time. Q: So can i just build gates everywhere if i am a colony? A: No, above all the gates are objects of convenience so that colony/solar system contact in the RP isn’t impossible. The IC reason is that the gates cost decades of resources to make, and there simply is not a reason to make more currently. Q: Why did the colonies never expand or go back to Earth until now? A: The colonies were established with at max a million people, and these people ended up with an entire system to themselves. Until now they simply lacked the population or infrastructure to go home, let alone to go elsewhere considering that fast as light travel itself is extremely expensive. Q: Does the Belt State control the entire asteroid belt? A: No, after the war they simply lacked the population to reestablish control that fast. Currently they do control the largest fraction of the asteroid belt, but various smaller fractions have been occupied by other factions. Q: Do i have to be a nation? A: No, individuals and organizations are completely acceptable. . [b]The Three Star Systems:[/b] Outside of the solar system there are three star systems that are still in the process of colonization, for while the interstellar colonies have managed to advance in space travel beyond the innovations of solar society, their populations still remain lower than Sols. [hider=System Descriptions] [b]Epsilon Eridani:[/b] The most distant of the Three Star Systems Epsilon Eridani is a single star closer in type to Sol than any other star that was settled. In addition it is the only one where a planet that was Earth like was found and eventually settled by Indian state colonists. Beyond that the system had several worlds of odd composition including a world of water that is close enough to the star to be liquid but so close that is has formed a heavy water vapour atmosphere that has caused a runaway greenhouse effect. This world is expected to evaporate before long. Some other odd worlds include a desert world that may have been habitable some time long ago, however it is now little more than a desolate world with a CO2 atmosphere surrounded by a moon of similar composition. The system also possesses some more common planets, such as a few gas giants and ice worlds. -[Steaming water world] -[Desert world] -[Moon that is desert-like in composition] -[Gas giant, large rings] -[Barren moon] -[Volcanic moon] -[Barren moon] -[Asteroid belt] -[Gas giant] -[Earth-like] -[Barren moon] -[Ice giant] -[Barren moon] [b]Luhman:[/b] A binary dwarf system that due to the stars being only brown dwarves, give off little light even when compared to red dwarves. As a result, all the worlds around luhman are far colder than what is acceptable for human habitability. However, the system has large amounts of rocks, gases and water that has made it conducive to life that may be alien in nature. The brown dwarves of the system also are lukewarm in comparison to other stars that one could set up a gas mine in the atmosphere of one. Most the worlds have been either icy or barren around Luhman, however the system is known for having a world that is like titan, but bigger than earth. This seemingly desolate system became the home of the Chinese Cooperative Zone Settlers -[Asteroid belt, close to the binary dwarves] -[Barren world close to the binaries that has surprising geologic activity as a result of gravity] -[Titan-like world larger than titan] -[Icy world like europa that suffers high geological stress due to its large moon] -[Barren moon] -[More asteroids] -[Icy asteroids] [b]Alpha Centauri System:[/b] The alpha centauri system contains three stars. While the colonists named the planets, the star system’s name has stayed pretty much the same for the past thousand years. The brighter stars, Alpha Centauri A and B orbit near each other while a red dwarf named proxima centauri is relatively further away from the “center” of the system while still being in the gravity well of the Alphas. There is a lack of any jovian planets to speak of, but there is multiple terrestrial worlds that while barren due to their bad position relative to the stars along with the erratic nature of planetary orbits caused by the multi-star system have become home to people descended from NAU colonists over the past several centuries. -[Hell] The closest planet to Alpha Centauri, at a temperature of 1200 degrees celsius and an orbital period of four days. Despite being only slightly larger than earth, the planet is completely hostile to human life. The planet’s atmosphere is being constantly flayed by the star it orbits, there is no solid surface other than lava and the radiation levels are extreme. -[Barren planet with high metallic deposits] -[An equally barren moon] -[Barren world] -[Asteroids] -[Water world] -[Proxima Centauri] A part of the Alpha Centauri system, a red dwarf. -[Tidally locked planet] -[Barren planet] -[Barren moon][/hider] [b]Nations Reserved by Request:[/b] -Martian United Government -Jovian League - - - -
