I think I may have a use for a tavern owner.
Something from an old roleplay i was in.
We are going to have to find pieces of a stone, each one about the size of a small pebble. These stones will combine to create a small basketball-sized sphere. This sphere is the key to open a mystic portal that will release an imprisoned cosmic being that will be grateful for their help, granting each a single wish. Since I don't see many "popped up here due to a storm gone wrong" I'm going to assume we all came from this world and plan to stay here.
The tavern owner can be their rumor guide, hooking them up with info about possible locations.
