Oh, one more thing that I spotted, this time involving dear Eliza.

A few minutes? How did it go from "[i]Elizabeth woke up early.[/i]" and "[i]a group of early-bird second-year boys[/i]" to "[the opening ceremony is] in a few minutes"? I realize that you said it took her "decidedly too long" to find her gloves, but then why would the second-year boys be considered "early-bird(s)" if they're out and about just minutes before the ceremony?
