Act as you see fit...thou from what I could gather there where 2 ways to present Switch. In the anime it wasn't presented as a skill but the action you take. So jumping in front of a monster whil the current target/your partner retreats, forces the system to recalculate the target, leaving the mob immobile/vulnerable for a moment. As for the game, it was put in as a skill with cool down (rather long) and had the ability to both stun the monster and disable it(apparently), because it seemed that after a switch the monster seemed less likely to hit the player. But the way voice actors act in these situations in creates a impression similar to my first point. What we don't know is weather it works or not. But from my rationalizing a Switch is actually a glitch exploit. Thus should probably work with whomever you may do it.
