Results will be released by council seat, and all of the council seat results will be reported individually before the official result is given around breakfast time on Friday morning. We'll know whether it was a 'No' or a 'Yes' before it's official, by summing up the results from the individual council seats. 

If it's tight, though, we might only know a short amount of time before the official final result. That scenario seems likely, too, since major cities like Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen are being reported closer to the end.
