"I would like to join you, Captain." Shamus said as he waited for Jon to finish using his communicator. "I am not properly combat trained, but I am durable and have access to paramedic supplies. If the pirates have slaves aboard then I may need to be present to assess their medical condition." Shamus lowered his head before continuing. "I will do my absolute best to avoid being a burden to you on this mission." 

Shamus wasn't sure why he wanted to join the boarding party. He would work to keep his team alive, but that wasn't the only reason. Perhaps he had some grim fascination with seeing pirates, beings who are known to work for personal gain and personal gain alone. He had experienced mistreatment in the past, but pirates are a unique form of resentment and selfishness that Shamus had never been exposed to. It would be an experience.
