"What separates earth from matter?"

I have the feeling that the best way to resolve this is to remove any mention of Tahaan changing the matter and instead replace it with the disappointment that he can't change it. My math indicates that earth = weave + matter. Tahaan can not make earth because he can not weave alone. He can however put pieces of matter together to make big bulky clumps of matter. This matter does nothing, it's like flour I guess. Alone, flour is just a bland, tasteless chalk, but by adding different thing you can make cake and breading :P I'll just scrub out the ability to change the energy in the matter, it'll make this problem go away I hope.
