[i] Cause most people on this site are around that age- and it's easier for them to play said characters. 
You can probably ask the GM and they would be more than happy to let you play a little older or younger than a teenager.

I've played an 10 year old that killed both her parents because her imaginary friend told her to do so.
I've also played a 80 some year old woman harboring a serial killer in her house. *shrugs* 

Just ask- and usually you'll receive.[/i]
