LEELAND EVERLARK

Leeland is a shy boy from the East who found himself lost in the Main City following the death of his mother. She was murdered by a gang of thieves in their wealthy estate back in the East. Leeland narrowly escaped, using the secret passages in the house that lead into the woods behind their home. Once he was on his own, Leeland was at a loss to do as he was brought up as a sheltered child who rarely ever left the house and has no social skills whatsoever. In addition, he was very affected by his mother's death because she had been his only friend, and was more than willing to curl up under a tree and die. But two days later, when Leeland was barely conscious and severely dehydrated, he found himself being dragged to a lake where he gingerly drank until he regained his strength. His savior turned out to be a large mountain wolf that his mother told him stories about, who lived in the mountains and were larger than a horse. They always kept in the mountains and hardly ever entered populated areas, so only a handful of wizards had ever seen them. The childhood tales described them as wild, ravenous creatures that would tear you apart the instant they spotted you. But this one was kind and had taken Leeland to the river to drink, surely saving his life from his own torment. The wolf stayed with as he recovered and used her fur to keep him warm during the cold nights. He knew that he should be scared of the wolf, that it might just be taking care of it's meal before it ate him, but for some reason he felt connected with her and knew that she only wanted to keep him safe.

The next day, when Leeland could walk again, the wolf helped him collect berries to eat and let him ride upon her back and took him to the closest city. The people of the village ran in fright when they saw him ride in on top of a mountain wolf and the PeaceKeepers of the town tried to kill them, only to be stopped by their leader. He was a subordinate straight from under the King and had known Leeland's mother well. When he noticed that it was Leeland, whom he had thought had been killed along with his mother, on it's back, he ordered everyone to lower their wands and went up to speak with him. He told Leeland that he and his squad had captured the thieves that murdered his mother and that he was welcome to go back to the house, but Leeland didn't want to go back there. Not when there was only painful memories waiting for him there. So the PeaceKeeper told him that the Main City would be the best place for him to go if he didn't want to stay in the East anymore. He offhandedly mentioned that Leeland had family there that he could stay with, but didn't go into any more details after that.

With no where else to go, Leeland packed up his bags with food and supplies, along with personal items and a picture of him and his mother, and headed for the Main City. Since his mother was dead, all of her royalties where passed on to him and he had more than enough money to buy a boat ticket to the City, but Leeland preferred to walk there instead. The mountain wolf never left his side during the ordeal and made it apparent that she was going with him to the Main City. Relieved that he wouldn't be travelling alone, Leeland got on her back once more and the two headed for the Main City.

Unbeknownst to him, Leeland is actually the son of the King Belzeneff Black and is a prince. He is also a mute and cannot speak, and since Wiz has no official sign language, its hard for him to communicate with others without writing things down. But while he cannot connect with humans, Leeland has always found it easy to become friends with animals. He can feel their emotions and intentions and it seems that they can feel his too. Before leaving the East, he named the mountain wolf Jekketa.[/center]
