Humanity has long considered the continent their home and its major bedrock civilizations are literally on the verge of entering a Renaissance, yet recent, irreversible wars are fusing the land into a volatile powder keg. Widessread condemnation can point towards the Fall of the Kingdom of Valania and her mighty armies. Fourteen years have passed since the Sarifen Empire established itself as Carcassonne’s dominating military power, however, the promises for peace and prosperity have not been fulfilled. Scars of the War of Sarifen Conquest still exist and many subjects of the conquered Kingdom of Valania grow weary of Sarifen rule, including the former Valanian crown prince, Lucius Delacroix I and his sister, the crown princess Ryanna Delacroix. The people suffer and toil under an archaic Feudalistic way of life rife with corruption, sexism, civic inequality, economic slavery, and classism of unprecedented scales. To make matters worse, unnecessary continental wars, famines, and political assassinations threaten to tear society apart. Within Valania itself, its former territories are in a state of heavy decline, due to institutional neglect, excessive corruption, gluttony, and indifference to the suffering populace. The gap between the rich and the poor is appalling and the mortality rate has risen as the people either starve or barely scrape by. Famines have also spread across Sarife, however, the Emperor Aryanpour I and the Empire's many Sarifen aristocrats turn a blind eye to the mass suffering as they indulge in lives of unchallenged privilege and comfort. Whispers have also spread throughout the land that a deep rift has emerged between the Emperor and his son, the Royal Sarifen Prince Bahramesh Azad Aryanpur II; whom holds no love for the Empire's buckling economy and the people's suffering. As Sarife falls further into decline, the prince watches helplessly as two generations of incessant guerilla warfare within Valania's territories have finally emptied Sarifan coffers as his father refuses to disband the Empire's massive conscript army. All the same, reports from Sarife's most accomplished agents speak of a secret alliance between Carcassonne's Southern rulers as the Kingdoms of Vectis, Vorst, Ivalis mobilize their armies along Valania's Southern borders. Simultaneously, disheveled refugees arrive from across the sea along Carcassonne's West and Northern coasts. Nightmarish tales have emerged of ancient nations falling to merciless and unstoppable hordes wearing impenetrable, plate mail armor. Heroes and Patriots are needed once again to fight the injustice that once again threatens to engulf Carcassonne into anarchy and totalitarian rule. Where are Valania's champions during its hour of need? Where is Valania's Crown Prince, Lucius or Sarife's Royal Prince Bahramesh? What toils await Sarife as famines drain their rivers and farmlands? Nothing is certain; however, a storm is coming. With unemployed masses, crippling debts, and suffocating class imbalances; the people must look within themselves than towards their local indifferent aristocrats to bring life to their dying nations. Who will answer the call? Only those whom dare to dream, stand a chance of survival and whatever happens, the next chapter within Carcassonne's Blood-Riddled Sagas will soon unfold. Those whom decide to reverse the peoples' dwindling misfortunes will forever inshrine themselves into legend for this is a new age!
Story Master's Note: Welcome all to Altaea: Age of Revolution! This story has been long in the making and overdue for telling so I would like to welcome all visitors to join me in writing an epic tale. Some writers have already gotten the jump from the Interest Thread while others are returning from RoleplayGateway to continue where Altaea's prequels left off! With that being said, please take the time to read my notes and let's all grow as writers! 1. Story Layout – The main story will be broken down into Chapters and after each conclusion, new Chapters maybe unlocked for the future. The participating writers are free to decide where the entire group will proceed by means of a democratic vote. As more about the story and characters are unlocked, information about Sarife and Valania will be revealed and as the Story Manager, I will offer guidance and suggestions as the plots unfold and will be open to questions or other suggestions to both enhance the story and clarify any misunderstandings or vague subjects. Rough story and character concept credits go to Mr. D. 2. Power Roleplaying - You all know what power-roleplaying or godmoding. If you need clarification, I recommend visiting this wiki article this wiki article to better illustrate these terms. To simplify things, don't! 2. Manners - Please be nice to each other and keep debates within respectable levels. Flaming and spiteful insults can be avoided and if anyone has any problems or conflicts, please PM me privately! I am a reasonable person anddddd who says there needs to be drama? If there are issues, we can be adults and talk things out! 3. Adult Material - Please abstain from including errotic writing and limit them to PMs. For more information, please visit the Fundamental Rules of the Guild threat in the News forum. I need not explain any further, so no explicit adult errotica here :D. 4. Storytelling - I would like to emphasize that this is purely a collaborative writing experience. It is not text gaming, but a chance for writers to come together and contribute to a given plot arc. As such, there are no stats or a system per say, but more writing, plot, and storytelling. Let's bring our minds together to craft an awesome story! 5. Mortality! - Your characters are mortal as all humans in real life. As such, they are susceptible to death! Any reckless, brash, or poorly rationalized actions will land your characters (and others) into a life threatening situation or an alley grave. Some plot arcs and incidents are quite dangerous and being oblivious to dangerous surroundings just screams for character tragedy! Please include: "A bad peace is worse than a good war" in your character sheet to indicate that you've read and understood my rules and notes! I will of course give out a warning of any unintelligent actions, please heed them. I cannot help after a deed is done and if a character dies, they're dead for good, at which point, you'll need to draft a new character. 6. Ahhhhhh! Ninjas! - Please, no ninjas, samurai, or uber katana master ronins! Assassins, spies, and thieves are acceptable, but no unkillable ninjas or characters with undetectable stealth or chain lightening katana skills. I don’t have anything against ninjas, but they seem out of place in a Middle Eastern-European setting. 7. Reading - Please try to read every single post and try not to skim! Sure, we all have hiatuses, but skipped or skimmed readings will leave you in the dark, plot and story wise. Read 8. OOC:OOC as IC:IC No OOC messages in the IC thread, please! I will ask for a deletion if I see an OOC message in the IC so I would ask that we keep OOC message to ... well ... the OOC thread 8).

GM Notes: 1. For those who wish to participate, this thread is for dedicated roleplayers or those wishing to further their writing skills. Although I do encourage all to have fun, to take their time in posting, and not to feel pressured to churn out quick posts, don't hesitate to collaborate! If you have writer's block, talk to your fellow writers and/or myself! 2. If any of you have real life priorities and for whatever reason, cannot post, or have any questions about the thread please message me via PM. I won't bite; I just want to know when someone's on hiatus so they won't fall off the band wagon 3. There will be graphic content that may not be suitable for people under the age of 18. If you are sensitive to subjects pertaining to excessive blood loss, gore, intense violence, or verbal profanity, you have been warned! 4. The world is full of histories and events that are up to you to discover; the more your characters interact with the world (and to each other), the more your characters will learn, which will help both to further the plot and enhance it. I encourage all of you to interact with each others characters because even though I will be driving the story along, the plot is in a way non-linear and whatever actions your characters make will heavily influence the course of history. Example: If character A is sent to sneak into a bank and retrieve an object, and character B is sent to talk to an important individual, both jobs could be very difficult to accomplish individually. But! What if character A helped character B fulfill his/her mission? If character A helps character B to talk to a certain individual and get on the individual’s good side, character B will be free to help character A fulfill his/her objective while adding benefits due the success of character B’s mission. 5. Humanity is the dominant race Carcassonne, specifically the North and Southwest Regions so characters will need to be humans! I will be bending this rule in the near future, but not extensively so if you're looking to roll out an elf or dwarf, don't get your hopes up 8). 6. Realism is something I highly value and what I encourage that all of you incorporate it into your future posts. Please stay true to your characters and acknowledge their specialties as well as their limitations. An example would be a light and swift swordsman (or woman), who might be nimble, quick, and very agile, but would not be able to execute as much power as a strength based swordsman (or woman). Please include, " When I go more than ten miles out of the city, the love and loyalty of friends comes to an end" in your character sheet to indicate that you've read this far. Likewise, a doctor or a librarian may prove pivotal to the story, but not in the self-protective sense. Balance is a virtuous creative element, however, if some of you fancy a challenge you are all welcome to roleplay any character profession of your choosing and we'll work out their story integration. 7. The current age is based off of late 15th century Europe, an era known as the Late Middle Ages. That being said, the Renaissance is over the horizon and there are many philosophers, doctors, physicians, painters, mathematicians, merchants, and artists aplenty! 8. Bear in mind, though, that fire arms have only developed to the point of wheel lock arquebusier muskets and unless your characters hold a military occupation, are a blacksmith, or a gunsmith, only the wealthy will own the finances to purchase fire arms and full suits of gothic armor. Spears, swords, leather armor, and breastplates are all in plentiful supply and much more affordable. The underground Valanian resistance is also a decent plot-hook so their connections are another plausible reason for weapons and armor acquisitions. 8. I would encourage all to do research (as it definitely helps) and to get a feel for the psychological, societal, judicial, and educational limitations of the renaissance era. 9. Both Valania and Sarife are transitioning out of their feudal systems of governance and moving in favor of forming meritocratic republics where fair democratic elections will exist. The cultures, aristocratic ranks, and military institutions of both Valania and Sarife are very different. Please include, "All citizens must place the common good before the private good" in your character sheet to show that you've read this far. Valania's inspiration draws heavily from of Ancien Regime France and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth while Sarife is based off of the various Ottoman Caliphates and Sasanid Empire. 10. Magic does exist, but it is quite low key and different from what most of you would imagine. No quick getaways, chain lightening spells, or fireballs that substitute modern day napalm bombs. 11. A character can come from all walks of society from an important member of the nobility, to a squire, a merchant, an officer, soldier, alchemist, carpenter, baker, shop owner, doctor, mathematician, city watch, pick pocket, or whomever you choose. The skies are the limits from so I highly encourage you all to be tap your creativity! 12. This is an roleplay will be strongly plot driven and I have taken the liberty to use whatever Mr. D has created and enhance it in my own way. I highly encourage all of you to add to the world in your own fashion. Please take care in reading my notes and rules for the simple fact that they'll give a better feel for the world. This world was not created by me and all credit goes to Mr. D for taking the time to flesh out all the extensive backgrounds. This thread will continue off where Altaea: Song of the Ancients, Altaea: Twilight Chronicles, and Altaea: Valania, left off.

Name: (Don’t need to explain this one) Age: (How old your character is) Race: (What species your character is) Nationality: (Where your character was born) Allegiance: (Whom your character is loyal to) Appearance: (Either a picture or written description will suffice) Profession: (What your character does for a living) Biography: (Your character’s background) Notable skills/abilities: (Specialties, trades, skills) Other Notes: (Other notable qualities, histories, or background that are worth mentioning)

Chapter 1: Voltas Episode 1: In Fine Principium - In the former Valanian capital. Voltas, the times are grim as unseasonal rains continually destroy the year's crop. With a food shortages came anarchy, culminating in the myserious assassination of several prominent Sarifen aristocrats and disappearances from various gold shipments meant for overdue troop and mariner salaries. The incidents have sparked a citywide martial law not seen since the months following the Kingdom's fall. Worse, the city is rife with chaos as heavy troop deployments from Sarifan citizen gonds, ethnic brutality between resident Sarifens and Valanian subjects, as well as mass executions engulf the city's squares. The peoples tear at each other to seize whatever little food still exists while Prince Bahramesh I and his Imperial Zhayedans fail to keep the peace. The dies have not yet been cast, but dark days lay ahead as elsewhere, Sarifen land and naval forces lay waste to the countryside and coastlines in an effort to both flush out the Valanian resistance and recoup vacant payment stipends. Whatever happens within the following weeks will decide the fate of Valania and soon, all of Carcassonne ... Episode 1: Absolutum Dominium - A power struggle rages throughout the city as the conflict between the Valanian autonomy and outright Sarifen domination. The common inhabitants outnumber the ruling body almost twenty to one yet they slave and languish under squalor, mistreatment, blood politics, meagre compensations, and few rights. Resorting to armed conflict or outright extortion, the lines shift as both Valanians and Sarifens butcher each other over dwindling resources. The Regent Sovereign casts a blind eye towards the dwindling populace, having embarked upon a quest to secretly manufacture arms and assorted weaponry for smuggling across the open seas. As conditions deteriorate, Sarifen reinforcements continually pour into the open Valanian countryside to counteract the growing troop deployments along Valania's southern border and to seize staggering payments owed to the Empire's main conscript armies. The stage is set for what is to come for an awakening that will shake Northern Carcassonne and its inhabitants to its very core ...

Councillor Sofonobisbal Gisgo – A prestigious Ivalian Councillor within the matriarchal, Ivalian governance body, the Council of Four Hundred and Four. Her connections run deep and her influence much more expansive than what most might initially believe. Being a middle aged woman, she is a highly revered within Ivalian society and heads intelligence activities throughout Ivalis information networks. She personally oversaw Daedhel L'Fevre's training and indoctrination into the shadowy Ivalis' secretive covert rings. She features long, wavy dark hair, fair eyes, conditioned physique, and tanned skin. Harbors a cold and calculating demeanor as is expected from Ivalis' Councillors. Her presence at what has quickly become known as the Banquet of Blood is as mysterious as her appearance within the decaying Valanian capital, however. Sarifen Aristocrats and Azads – The main power-holders and aristocracy amongst Sarifen Society and as numerous as they are ruthless. Amongst the most prominent are the Houses of Surena, Baktria, Seleucidae, Sasan, Arsaces, and Achaemenid. They are also the most highly educated, wealthiest, and by far the pettiest of all Sarifens and given a decades long occupation of their former southern neighbors, would do anything to retain or extend their bases of power. Each notable house retains at least some modicum of land, power, fear, respect, reverence, and financial dominance over the vast deserts, arid valleys, and grassy steppes of Northwest Carcassone. Most of the great aristocratic families pledge loyalty to both the Aryanpour Emperors and the Sarife itself while preserving glittering palaces of immense, overt extravagance within Sarife's oasis jewel itself, the imperious capital city of Orad. Boluk-Bushi Untirr Taskim (formerly drafted by Author: Squrmy) - A capable commanding officer that leads an entire orta within the legendary Nezamnissary Corps. Like many other Nezamnissaries, he was selected during early childhood and sent to Orad to the finest academies within Emperor Anoush Aryanpur's courts and after rigorous training and education, chosen to a leadership position. His leadership is sound and judgments based on logic, discipline, and rigid pragmatism. He is one of many great Nezamnissary Boluk-bushi commanding ortas, however, his stubbornness, unwavering dedication to his men, and faith in Emperor Anoush as well as towards Sarife is a rarity within the Empire itself. Chief Inquisitor Saren – A chief amongst the Sarifen Inquisition within Voltas. In public, he serves as a feared emissary to the Zendricaanist faith. His purpose is to administrate the Zendricaanist faith, police the empire's subjects to respect Yadin-Hamon's authority, and to seek out heretics within the general populace, most especially those that unleash latent super-natural abilities that blaspheme against Yadin-Hamon, the father and god of in which encompasses Zendricaanism. Is rumored to accept bribes from the highest bidders, but no public evidence supports this. He secretly conducts favors in behalf of the Valanian Lord Sovereign, Richter von Conqvist. The Bozorgan of Baktria – An immensely powerful Sarifen aristocrat within the great Houses of the Sarifen Empire, most notably the prestigious House of Baktria. Ranking a step below the ruling Aryanpur family, the Bozorgan holds great political connections that run deep into the heart of Sarife's aristocracy as well as its capital, Orad. Widely known to hold a very low opinion of Valania and its people while being neither a fool nor an imbecile. He also a sway wit swift retaliation and armed retribution against the Lord Sovereign, Richter von Conqvist IV if banditry continues into the end of the month against Sarifen shipping lanes and merchant caravans. Michel Coeur – A prominent, elderly grain merchant that somehow survived the great purge that followed the Kingdom of Valania's catastrophic collapse. Reportedly trades heavily with the Ivalian consortiums and colonies despite the heavy taxations, has managed to retain a profit through his Ivalian connections and partnerships. Secretly holds sympathies for the old Valanian crown and sheltered Daedhel L'Fevre, Onatha, and Prince Lucius Delacroix during the late autumn Voltisian Dockyards Massacre. Bastien - Lead Ganger of an unspecified Street Gang in the Commoner District. Not much is known about him, other than that he is heavily scarred, carries heavy street slang, and a commoner who probably lived in the streets and knew of the hardships associated with the day. Was secretly associated with a territorial transfer that supposedly went at odds with the Sovereign Holy Order of St. Melitas. Eugenia of Domenica - A prominent Comtesse and the Grand Master of the Sovereign Holy Order of St. Melitas, an Augurian worshipping and purely female dominated military order. Despite coming at odds with criminals, highway men, and gangers that reportedly rule Voltisian streets, she she commands the Melitan Sisterhood's headquarters in Voltas and holds a pact with Lord Sovereign Richter von Conqvist to police Voltas in exchange for a modestly numbered military order and the right to retain their historical headquarters at the Krak des Seine-et-Montrésor. She reserves little patience for those whom waste her time or deemed criminals and meets armed agressors with the sword, shot, or crossbow bolts from Melitan Sisters under her command. Holds political and military connections that run deep into Valania's neighboring kingdoms, Vectis and Vorst. Comtesse Mirabelle - A well known Valanian resistance leader and courtesan within Voltas' Sparsely Populated Courts Lord Sovereign Richter Von Conqvist IV – A Valanian aristocrat whom now presides as the Lord Sovereign over Voltas, the former Valanian capital city, and its surrounding lands. His authority somewhat extends into Valania's former populous cities, though he serves as a vassal under the Sarifen Empire. His quick-witted political negotiations lead to a favorable agreement with the Sarifen Empire that proved instrumental in accelerating the Kingdom of Valania's downfall and ultimately accelerating him to the very seat of the Valanian throne. A man of malicious intent, wicked immortality, iron-fisted kingship, and equally vile ruthlessness have successfully allowed many underhanded schemes to secretly remove his political opponents and expansion of his auxiliary military forces at the cost of widening the gap between the rich and the poor. It is widely believe that the criminal circles, cartels, and street thugs ruling Voltas' streets do so under Conqvist's watchful command. Mostly keeps out of the public sphere unless to play off the poverty stricken commoners plight for nefarious purposes.

None!

Barekbaal - Dorkim Ivalis Kdoshim Aloophim (Ivalian Greatest Sacred Band Infantry) - Not much is known about Barekbaal given that certain elements of Ivalian society are hidden in secrecy, however, her brief appearances describe her as a prestigious and lethal Retainer Commander of Councillor Sofonobisbal Gisgo. When a roof collapsed upon her, the Ivalian Commander gave her life long with every other notable Ivalian at what was known as the Blood Banquet to ensure the Councillor's survival. Vauquelin - The Lead Ganger of the Street Gang - Le gambers colporteurs mob. Got in the way of a secretive territorial acquisition between the Sororitas Melitas and a yet unnamed street gang headed by a pock-marked ganger named, Bastien. The territory was quickly seized, its members quickly slain to a man, and its brothels secretly confiscated to serve as an under-the-table recruiting base for the Sororitas Melitas. His foolish actions not only emptied his firearms, but his right to live. Sarifen crossbow bolts and arrows were the last objects he ever saw.

Maria "Sevy" De Tonnancourt. Author: IvoryShadows.
