Hello Flightless, I did enjoy The Host. I read the book and watched the movie as well. I don't remember all of the details of the book, the movie is more vivid for me. I had not thought about actually doing a rp with this setting until I read about it. I enjoy MxM roleplays and am not huge of instant loves type of stories. My characters are more like me, full of doubt, unsure and second guessing about relationships in general. One liners make me feel dirty. I don't do it. I am not sure what level of writer I am. Thus I will give you a bit of a look-see on my style. If you find you can tolerate my craft I would love to hear from you.
Tanu’s eyes snapped open, he rolled off the table his breath quickened. It smelt of a lab one he had not yet graced before. Everything was made for taller people, like himself. He couldn't pull any information from the air, he rubbed his nose which didn't spur any reaction. Easy. Tanu looked around finding not one person in the room other than him. He touched his neck and let out a strained cry, his fingers moved the rough surface to the base of his skull. This was not right, the wyrm didn't attach that high. He wasn't currently experiencing the constant lapping of emotions that his body partner normally sloshing him with. That is me. “You?” Tanu whispered glancing over the room again moving closer to the wall his eyes on the closed door. He questioned if he was high on cojane, he didn't recall drinking the serum. The last thing he remembered was being in the abandoned laboratory where his commanding officer had directed him to go. He met up with a hunter who proceeded to beat the living snot out of him. I am Cid. I will be your attachment for the duration. Cid was aware of the other's mind ticking away, he had no pathways to experience the thoughts unless his host allowed it. The humor of the statement was lost on Tanu, he dropped his hand. “The other did not speak.” It was a baby. I am full grown. Tanu lowered his head studying the gray floor as he absorbed this information. He was taught to accept change, to roll with it or the soul would break. A hard lesson to learn when all he wanted to do was scream and throw a fit. “I was a tracker before,” he said finally. “What am I now?” Tracker? May I see? With some help from him, the short clip of his hosts memory opened to Cid the joy of following a scent. It made him stand out from the others. I can enhance your sense once again. Will that help you accept me? “There is no other choice,” Tanu said straightening his shoulders and lifting his head. His mind closed again to his body partner, he focused on his surroundings. He sniffed the air out of habit than scolded himself. It would take time to stop doing that. "You did not answer my question." Cid was amazed at the strength of mind, none of his other hosts were so in control. No others had been attached to an infant, either. I have stabilized our systems. He shifted a few things in the host’s brain and the sense of smell was once again enhanced. I hope you do not regret wanting to smell so well in this confined space. Cid wiggled out another block of information that he had stored in the host’s mind. Language of the humans that we are in the care of. Let it seep into your mind. I will translate until it is fully installed. With his help, he showed his host how to integrate the stored memories in his long term memories. Tanu shivered, he peeled himself away from the wall. He searched the room walking to the bed, he caught sight of the corner of his coat. He hurried to the bin and opened it, he snorted at the acidity smell. He yanked the piece out and frowned at the ruin state of it. The armor was missing and padded under clothing had been cut off his body. His boots had been spared, he kicked the left one softly. Clothing on the counter. Tanu searched for the pile having over looked the neatly folded gray clothing. He found the pants and pulled it on just as the door opened. He faced the new arrival that strolled in with confidence. Tanu fell back a step from the counter, his shoulders tensed. A pale brown skinned person with a mop of brown hair on top, his facial hair was clean shaven. He had a bit of a gut to him, his hand rested on a hilt of a large pistol, the eyes were set with a silent challenge. Tanu watched the alien for a moment than finished fastening the pants, which barely clung to his thin hips. He needed to eat more and use the serum less, his body weight was dangerously low. The man with the gun was Roger and his attachment did not to like him. “I think that is enough time to get acquainted,” Susan said marching into the room. “I want answers and I want them now.” Tanu moved away from her as fast as she came in, his heart rate and breathing picked up. The horrors of what he had gone through flashed through his mind and he forced them back and he straightened. A child of the laboratory he knew what to expect. He closed his eyes for a moment and mentally prepared for whatever the scientist would dish out. A few twitters of a scanner and a soft grunt from the woman Cid dubbed as Susan. “You have a name?” “Yes,” he answered keeping his eyes upon the floor. “Is Cid in there?” Susan asked sharply tapping on the alien’s temple. Tanu didn’t move. She attached a round object to the cocoon and tried to speak to Cid directly, anger warmed Tanu's system and was echoed by him. The rest of Susan’s ranting was not translated, he licked his lips. He tried to make sense of why he was here. How did he come to be among these aliens? Roger started yelling at Tanu, it wasn’t until a punch to the jaw spurred a reaction from the parym. Tanu roared, he hunched down his fists balled up ready to strike as blood lust shot through his system the mindless need to kill was barely contained. Tanu's body shook with rage as he glared at Roger wanting to put some major hurt on him. Whoa! Cid worked hard to help Tanu stay in control of this rash emotion. “Back off,” he forced his host to say. “Or I swear I ‘accidently’ loss my hold on this.” “What were you thinking?” Susan snapped shoving Roger back. “Cid, what is going on in that skull?” “He’s accepted me,” Cid said through Tanu, the host grunted. “We are fully attached. He is learning your lang…” Tanu blinked and shook his head, he was once again in full control of himself. He used mental exercises to simmer the rage inside him. “I am in control,” he whispered repeatedly until the blood lust waned. “Cid,” Susan shouted. “Cid?” Royal blue eyes flickered at her face, distaste twisted his dark features. She frowned. “Alright,” she calmed herself down while moving to the counter. The scans were promising, the two were in sync and stabilized. The mind was a little harder to read. A soft tap on his elbow and the shirt was held out to him, Tanu took it and yanked put the tunic on. Susan had to help tie it properly closed. She gestured for him to follow with the universal sign for eating. Tanu nodded peering at Roger leaning on the counter with his arms folding in front of him. He followed the scientist out of the laboratory, he picked up scents of cooking and hints of others that had graced the hall recently. Most had the taint of drugs and other chemicals embedded in their scent trail. Most were mature and a few were in their female cycle. Interesting how much you can pull out of odors. “It is my job,” Tanu answered softly, when Susan peered over her shoulder he looked away. He tapped his temple hoping she would understand. Susan started walking again.
