If it's mapped out in my mind correctly, it wouldn't have hit Melina, as I think she was running across Nolan's line of sight, so she would've either vaulted over it as it passed through where she would be or vaulted and moved out of the path. (I'm assuming Nolan is farther away than Penny and his attacks move about as fast as hers.)

(If I remember correctly Penny walked past Melina before Melina struck out, so it would've been Melina out to the side with Nolan and Penny in a line. So Nolan would be off to Penny's side. And they sort-of spread apart during the fight.)
