Name: Kareth of Lendria Gender: Male Age: 36 Ethnicity: Northman Physical Description: Kareth is rather short for a Northman, standing only at 5'9''. (note: Kareth doesn't actually know anything about blacksmithing and is not a blacksmith.) Faction: Bandits Rank/Role: Mercenary Commander Items/Equipment: Axe, shield, iron breastplate, iron helmet, hunting bow, quiver, 7 arrows, rough hide cloak, clothes. Skills/Talents: Kareth is a skilled warrior, adept in the use of almost any weapon, though he prefers fighting with a sword and shield or on horseback with a spear or lance. He knows basic survival skills, but they alone are insufficient to keep him alive though the next winter. Kareth also has a firm grasp of warfare and tactics; though no genius, he can easily outwit any novice commander. Personality: Kareth is a soldier and has been for most of his life and so behaves like one. He is gruff and straightforward and prefers not to bandy words. He prefers honesty, believing lies to be too much work. He takes pleasure in what he can, but the past two years since the end of the Valtakundan wars of succession have harrowed him, making him wary of outsiders, especially the constabulary. He is reluctant to turn to banditry, but his survival and that of his few comrades depends on it. Background: Kareth hails from the Kingdom of Lendria, a small nothern Kingdom known for it's skilled and fierce warriors and for their rivalry with the much larger and hostile Kingdom of Cerania, maintaining their independence for the past 200 years. Kareth was trained as a knight from youth, and fought in the most recent war between Lendria and Cerania, some 12 years ago. He was then known as the Crimson Serpent and as the Butcher of the Culvert. When the war ended, he didn't settle down as most Lendrian soldiers did, but joined a mercenary company and fought all across the Northlands. His company's most recent work was found two years ago during the Valtakundan war of succession, hired as raiders sent to pillage and harass behind enemy lines. Unfortunately, their paymasters were defeated, meaning the company had only earned what they had taken from their raiding. Within a month, winter set in and the company of 300 men barely survived, spending all they had earned to survive. Unable to find work due to mistrust of mercenaries, the company split apart, 250 following the commander back to the life of banditry in order to survive, and the 50 who refused to stoop to such a low or reluctant to become criminals following Kareth. Kareth's group, living in the wilderness, barely managed to survive the year, and so when winter came again, they were forced to sell most of their weapons and arms to survive. Despite that, barely one in ten lived through the cold season, and when spring finally came again, Kareth and the other 6 survivors realized they would not survive another year unless they turned to banditry, joining forces with other bandits set on seizing the town of Nehlm.
