He was raised by his father, a Praetor and Field Commander of a Roman Legion. Needless to say, Cassius was raised in the military tradition of Rome for he was expected to be an officer of equal or greater skill than his father. However, Cassius found himself entranced by combat. He found that there was no better test of a man than a test to fight for his life, a lesson that he learned during his youth when he witness a gladiatorial fight in celebration after the end of the First Punic War. Thus, Cassius grew up being one of the few major patrons of the growing gladiatorial phenomena. As his career as a junior officer during his youth, Cassius would bring back exotic animals and the occasional prisoner and have them used to create spectacles for the people. In addition, he would become one of the first people to open up a ludi in the region with the wealth he gathered from his campaigns. This passion of his would ultimately help garner public opinion and support, which ultimately helped lead to his somewhat recent promotion to Legatus.
