The doctors were working on repairing the damage but it was so bad that it would take a lot of surgeries to repair the damage. Surgeries that he couldn't have. Not without reveling himself as something other then human. Which meant finding a way to live with the damage or finding a way to hide it. He magic didn't seem to work so he need something else. He just didn't know what.
