From what I'm reading here, it looks like the pregnancy delayed some serious problems that she would have had if her uterus had continued to shed lining without the material being able to escape. Not that a knife wound, unexpected pregnancy and caesarean aren't huge problems by themselves (at that age too), or that the accumulating blood wouldn't have had to be addressed later on, but it's worth noting.
