He's informed me that he'll be inactive for a week as he's traveling. He said that he'd be able to catch up once he gets back. I've told him that he might be left without a partner as this is based on interactions, so I'm awaiting his response now to see if he wouldn't mind that. 

In the meantime, one person can have two partners, so that evens things out I guess.
