Background: Shiemi grew up in Irie – a small, coastal town beside a forest in Japan. When she was very little, she made a lifelong friend in the son of a friend of her parents, Ren. The two were inseparable as they grew up in their small-ish town and eventually her parents grew tired of how much time she spent with him. Despite doing well in school, they wanted her to study more. Despite their best efforts to keep her in the house, she had managed to save a lot of money to get a copy of Sword Art Online and a Nerve Gear, after hearing Ren talk about getting it. Afterall, if her parents thought she was studying in her room, she could spend hours playing a game with him. Though she really didn’t know anything about video games, and their town had a very limited number of copies available.

Background: The girls were born to a pair of English parents who had been living in Japan for several years before they had children.
