The year is 2057. Mankind, in a multinational effort, colonized the moon. Because it was so far from Earth, and would therefore be impossible to save, and a publicity nightmare if it failed, they stopped short of colonizing Mars. Now, in a joint effort by multi-national corporations, Mars will be colonized. Ares LLC, partially owned by many companies, including Virgin Galactic, has built two ships at its tourist and trade space station, Hermes I. For the last five years they have been testing hundreds of potential colonists. When the first ship was finished they chose a crew for the ship, Ares I, a few people who were the best humanity had to offer. They must build the first colony on another planet, one large enough support the next wave of colonists. The colonists know that they must not fail. If they do, they will all die, as will the next wave if they fail too badly for the situation to be salvaged. The interest check Things needed for a Mars colony: 1) Prefab habitat. 2) inflatable domes and atmospheric equipment for them. 3) manufacturing and mining equipment 4) Landers 5) mothership (storage and manufacturing area at first) 6) chemical processing equipment (to make hydroponics chemicals, air, and fuel) 7) robots (for heavy lifting, dangerous situations, etc.) 8) chemical extractors (remove one set chemical from whatever is pumped through it per filter. We have at least four of them, two to remove hydroponic chemicals from compost (waste water and regolith), and two for nutrients from Chlorella Algae) Crew needed: 1) Doctors (physical and psychological) 2) Maintenance/engineering (several) 3) Pilots 4) Biologists/agriculture specialists 5) computer/communications specialist (required on maintenance team, as we will rely on computers and communications for everything) 6) manufacturing specialist (also on maintenance team, as we will need to make everything) 7) would like a chemist (tweaking things to mars specifically, and making new things form local resources) Crew members should have a variety of skills, so things don't get too bad if we lose someone. If you leave, you'll be killed off. If we need to bring in more people, we'll say NASA sent a second ship.
1) Go to Mars. 2) Land the ice-mining rover near the South pole to collect ice and thaw it (solar panels and fuel cells) 3) Land the Habitat module near a crater near the South pole. 4) Set up camp, including CPV (Concentrated Photo-voltaic), water tanks, Algae grow tubes (with red led light strips and heater strips for the log-term winter that's coming), fuel cells, communications dishes, etc. 5) Flatten area and pour slab of concrete made from local rock. 6) Inflate dome on slab. 7) Build Agriculture dome with local concrete and transparent panes made from local materials. 6) Spray aerogel on outside of dome for insulation. 7) Wire, plumb, etc. the agridome. 8) Set up Hydroponics tables, lights, heat, air, etc. 9) Set up backup systems in dome. 10) Repeat steps 5-9 for a Habitat dome. 11) Connect the two with a tunnel so that you don't need a spacesuit to travel between them. 12)

None so far.
