(This is a cyberpunk RP, and may get kind of Gritty, so be prepared.) 
The year is 2065, 50 years after the Internet has crashed. A massive virus known only as "PHX137" Swept through, and took down the worlds largest resource, Taking with it information, Videos, games,News, The worlds largest resource for connecting, and Billions of Kitten videos. 
In the 25 years after, Many races came out of the shadows. Elves, Dwarves, Orcs, trolls, Vampires, and Dragons, once thought to be creatures of myth and story, came out. The US split into separate Nations, The Republic, in the east, The Californian republic, In the West, and The New Confederacy in the South. Many more nations followed suit. 
Soon, the internet was back on a limited scale. only the rich, and other people had it. Internet access is currently used by satellite, so a skilled hacker can get into it. The Internet is also used by Universities, and occasionally cafes and cities can have it. 
 Treaty cities line borders of Countries. New Orleans and St Louis being two in the Former US. These are contested cities, but ruled over by an unbiased leader, and set apart by a treaty. These could be changed with intervention. 
The Catholic Church has unified with the Lutheran and Methodist. creating The Unified Church. They have accepted Magic, and use it in secret operations in governments where Catholicism isn't accepted.
