It's possible she had the few pieces that did auto-update.
Or her parents always did it while she was sleeping (or simply not looking) so she stayed oblivious.

Wouldn't shock me if it was someone her age in 20-30 years in the future... But currently? It's odd. :/
Though, I shouldn't judge too harshly. I myself didn't learn my left and rights or how to tie a shoe until I was 10-12.
And to this day I still never remembered what verbs, nouns, adjectives etc. are supposed to be.
