"No siren shall sing forever..." Name: Noémie Favreau Age: 17 Ability: ~Siren's Song~ Use: A melodic, haunting song which irresistibly draws those who hear it closer to the siren, making the siren herself seem irresistible. ✔ Works on almost all humanoids in hearing range ✘ Lasts until the song ends (all songs WILL have an ending) ✘ Those who cannot hear it will not be affected ✘ Works on allies as well as enemies ~Siren's Scream~ Use: The Siren emits a piercing, terrifying shriek which causes damage to the brain after prolonged exposure. The symptoms usually go in the order of - ear pain, headache, ear bleeding (deafness, will require healing after this point), nose bleeding, migraines, death. ✔ Works on almost all humanoids in hearing range ✔ Can be fatal to most humanoids ✔ Effective against those with sensitive hearing ✘ Whilst the Siren has some resistance against it, she cannot withstand the shriek for too long herself without ear protection, thus meaning that most screams will, at strongest, only reach the ear bleeding symptom ✘ Uses significantly more energy than the other spells, cannot be maintained for too long without fatigue or unconsciousness ✘ Works on allies as well as enemies ~Siren's Stupefaction~ Use: The siren creates a constant, vibrating sound (similar to dolphin song) which disorientates and confuses the listener, making it difficult to focus and can, after prolonged exposure, cause unconsciousness. ✔ Works on almost all humanoids in hearing range ✔ Causes no damage whatsoever to the listener or the Siren ✘ Only lasts as long as the siren can hold it for, as it uses up a significant amount of energy. ✘ Works on allies as well as enemies Bio: "Tu es vraiment curieux, non? Trouvez mon histoire tout seul!" ("You're very inquisitive, aren't you? Find out my history on your own!") Misc: ♫ Noémie is a native French speaker - she speaks with a notable French accent, and sometimes has difficulty translating certain words or phrases, or uses French when she's passionate about something. ♫ Noémie is asexual, and has no interest in romantic relationships. ♫ Noémie is NOT an albino - please check the information below about her species!
~Siren~ Appearance/Physiology: The most notable traits of a Siren are: ● Female reproductive organs, who require the assistance of a male human to reproduce (ALL Sirens will give birth to female sirens and male humans) ● Thick muscles and cartilage underneath the neck to protect vocal chords ● Very dark eye colours ● Carnivorous teeth (and a carnivorous diet) ● Bio-luminescent mouths, to produce an ethereal blue 'glow' which they use to attract prey in the wild. ● Scales instead of pubic hair When submerged entirely in water for more than a few seconds, the webbing between their hands and feet grows rapidly to improve swimming. The longer a Siren spends in water, the more sophisticated their underwater adaptations will become until they have the same adaptations as a common mermaid. HOWEVER, it is important to note that the change from underwater adaptations to land adaptations is considerably painful and involves shedding the webbed skin and sealing shut the gills to allow the mammalian respiratory system to kick in, which causes shortness of breath. Some genetic deficiencies can cause the Siren to suffer from sticky gills, where the gills seal up but the mammalian respiratory system does not re-establish itself. The gills can be opened again, but the Siren will have to spend the rest of her days underwater. The alternative to this is suffocation. Curiously enough, it takes a few hours for the nose to return to its normal shape on the face after being submerged in water, leaving slit-like nostrils on the face for around half a day. Other traits in a Siren are purely due to genetics and location. - Sirens with Arctic/North Sea heritages will tend to be pale-skinned with white hair, and very susceptible to heatstroke and sun-burns. - Sirens close to the equator tend to look tanned, toned with dark hair and deeper, more powerful voices. - The elusive Mers are covered in scales, with no hair and sheets of skin under the arms, like the flying squirrel. They are a sub-species of Siren. - A Siren which mates with a fish is more likely to create a Mer than a Siren. Sirens age at the same rate as a human, however the physical ageing tends to stop around 20 years old - they do not wrinkle or show any signs of anything beyond young adulthood, but they are more susceptible to illness after the age of 40. Not many Sirens live past 70 years. Culture and Personality: Siren families can occur in the city, but one would mainly find the Sirens near lakes or coasts with the human husbands. Their culture is mainly a human's culture, but nomadic tribes of Sirens can move from coast to coast, generally mating with the males and giving birth to the children near civilization and leaving them for dead. Primarily, however, a Siren is raised with their human father and Siren mother and taught the practices of a Siren, as well as allowing said Siren to move out and experience life on her own. The Siren children, however, need to have a close body of water to properly develop their respiratory systems and adaptations, which is why most Siren families are close to lakes or the coast. Without the influence of humans (which is rare), a Siren is a predatory humanoid beast who tend to hunt in packs of around 5-10 Sirens and eat solely meat. In some cases, savage Sirens have been known to consume only the flesh of their mate and, in some extreme cases, the flesh of their children. These extremist sirens believe that giving birth to a human is damaging to their gene pool, and raising the human with their mate ruins the 'primitive and sacred laws of a Siren which separate us from the humans'. Thankfully, these extremists are in the minority and tend to remain in hiding. A particular Siren cult has formed around the Mediterranean called "Sanctus enim spiritus disciplinae", or "Pure-Minded Ones", which believe in the city of Atlantis being brought from the depths of the sea via the subordination of the human race into breeding stock. Many extremist sirens will tend to be associated with this cult.
