I'm the most [i]fearless[/i], that is. He isn't terrified of what might happen; he's terrified of what might have happened beforehand. He ain't gonna cry, just freak out, give up, and then later get really really angry, or he'll just curl up in a chair and just read, read, read, read, read, until he [i]MUST[/i] eat something.
