He is very much a "doer" who can often be focused on immediate results causing him to live in the here-and-now. A risk-taker who, even at 11, has already developed a love for living a fast-paced lifestyle. Devin can become impatient with long explanations. This is especially true when he can't see the value in what is being explained. Extremely loyal to their peers, but not usually respectful of laws and rules if they get in the way of getting things done. Devin has constantly shown great people skills.
History
Devin was born in Vancouver B.C. to Linda and Sean Coal. Upon his birth Devin's parents were given a completely unexpected surprise. It turns out that within Linda's family there was a sect whose magical gifts went beyond the normal slight of hand stage. This new information did little to change Sean's feelings for his wife and new born child, but it did leave him somewhat confused. A state which even now he hasn't fully recovered from. Still he was happy to learn that his wife wasn't completely aware of this magical portion of the family. Namely because it meant that as a family they learned all about what made their son even more special then the normal parent gaze donned. He learned along side his family what it meant to be a member of the magical community and what this community hoped for. Together Sean and Linda seemed to agree that getting Devin involved in the magical community at an early age would be the smartest thing to do. So every weekend they send their son to a weekend retreat program for magical children. This program was wonderful for Devin who quickly made friends. Though his home and school life was completely dominated by muggle practices he fit in well enough with the kids from full magical families. The program also got the family interested in talking about where they wanted their son to study. Linda was in favor of sending their child to Hogwarts while her husband worried that this would force their son into a world that would be difficult to follow. He also worried that he wouldn't be able to go to college and further his education. In the end a compromise was made. The agreement was that Devin would be allowed to attend Hogwarts until the end of middle school (Age 14). At that time he would be tested on his muggle academics. If he shows to have fallen too far behind he would be pulled from Hogwarts and put into a muggle school instead of just attending summer programs to subsidise his alternate studies. Devin has had all this explained to him and is eager to start this new challenge. Thankfully the school district in Canada was more than helpful in setting this program up. It became clear that this was do somewhat to magical intervention as one meeting with his principal ended with the man only being able to repeat how happy he was Devin was given an amazing opportunity to study in England. To get ready for the big move Devin was sent a month early to his family in England who are members of the magical community. The month was spectacular for Devin who was, in a matter of hours, engrossed with all things magical as he went to Diagon Alley to shop for school materials. The final surprise of the day was found at Ollivanders. Here Devin was told that his family back home had send several wands made in the Pacific Northwest. Ollivander was equally excited to study them as he was always interested in new and different wand techniques. After nearly all the wands from the Pacific failed to get the desired response Ollivander handed Devin a box made of old redwood. The carvings on the box were that akin to a totem pole with faces of an eagle, whale, and beaver on the front. Inside a medium sized stick with a strong base was held. As soon as Devin picked it up he felt a rush unlike anything he had ever felt. It was like he was being hugged by an old friend. Ollivander seemed happy with this result; however, also shared some sadness in not being able to study this wand as it held a very rare core. "The thunderbird is said to be on par with a phoenix feather in its magical adaptability." He said to Devin.
NPCs
Sean & Linda - Both Devin's mother and father had few demands in conjunction with their son attending a magical school. The only hardline one was that they were free to visit their son at least once during the first year of his studies. They had originally demanded they be allowed to arrive at the school as a family, but Devin more than anyone else fought this. Instead the school agreed that three months into his first year Devin's parents would be allowed to visit for a long weekend.
