Yes, that's why it's been six years plenty of time to complete HEV training. Also since his transfer back on Reach he was the former captain of the ODST Bullfrogs which is what he was doing there evacuating people on Reach, the Bullfrogs were disbanded and now he's being placed with you all. Also I specifically say he is a Pathfinder, mean they enter before ground combat team either by pelican or by drop as they are sister unit to the ODST's while not as advanced they are often a recruiting platform, skills are transferable. 

Also a slight change in plan due to lore reading, all of you who are dropping will board one ship, as the UNSC would not have sent a battle group to Mar's at this time so we all meet up on board the UNSC cruiser [i]The Long Way Home[/i] First post coming after new characters sheets.
