In that case it might actually be best to go with the "Even Gwazi doesn't know where he's going next" approach considering the very world itself is inconsistent.

And my god... That last episode so far, amazing. 
There's one thing I specifically loved about it, but I'm sticking it in a hider cause it's kind of a spoiler.

They finally answered the question as to if it's possible for Time Lords to regenerate into the opposite sex or not.
So now I know for sure that a female doctor is possible without breaking lore or anything.
