Sol The human diplomats stood in shock, which began the moment she said that the Immortals had sent her out of the way then ordered an invasion. "Five hundred thousand humans died in that battle, and it all happened because those in power shoved their only opponent out of the way so they could 'pacify' a people. That's happened in our history before, in this very century. We sent you the documents on that war, you saw the atrocities. This is exactly what happened at the start of that war. The President of the US took control, tossing the rest of the government away and securing total control with a few cheering him on. Everyone else stood by and watched it happen, thinking they couldn't do anything. He began a campaign to 'eliminate terrorism', and the people stood by and let it happen. At first, it was thought that they would simply conquer the territory. However, the invaders began to terrorize the civilians, and they rose against them. That's when it happened, full scale bombardment the rules of engagement crumbled before the world's eyes. The rest of the world tried to stop it, but it was too late. Now the whole region's a radioactive wasteland. That's what almost happened here, we understand that the majority were against this, but that just makes it worse. If the people disagreed, then it was a crime for them to carry out the attack." Looking around, as if to check for something, the diplomat continued. "The other Immortals are tyrants to our people. Your civilians and soldiers are not our enemy, they are. I'm sorry, but we refuse to do anything more than stop shooting as long as they are in power. You will leave Fergus here, and keep your ships out of Terran space. Your prisoners will not be returned, and you will not be allowed to recover any salvage from your vessels. Any violation of these conditions will be considered a declaration of war. Unless, of course, you have... anything else to discuss?" Royal Palace, Hollie Praskoviya seemed unpleasantly surprised by the mention of the Eternal Union, but didn't say anything on the matter. They all accepted the menu with a thank you, and began to look over it. To their surprise, they could understand parts of it. They supposed that their hosts assumed that they would be able to translate the text, but in reality, it was only an audio translator. Nevertheless, they found themselves looking at letters almost exactly the same as those in the Latin alphabet, and even a few words which they fully recognized as English and French. At first, they assumed it was some sort of insane coincidence, but as they read, the words fit together in an understandable manner. A few were obvious blends of different words, like something out of an alt-history novel where Mexico fell to the revolution. Interestingly, many of the words for what they assumed was "newer" food were almost entirely original, with only a few similarities to the Terran words. "My God..." Said Praskoviya "A Queen? Latin alphabet? French and English words? This is some kind of alternate 19th century! How is this possible? Space travel was barely an idea back then, and the newer words are completely original, indicating the latest plausible split to be before the American Revolution! Space wasn't even thought about then, no, they can't be from Earth! They have legitimately red skin, that's too big of an evolutionary jump for such a short time! Could this really be a coincidence?" "Well, let's order food. Maybe we'll find the answer there." Said one of the marines, the other two looked at him with a confused look on their faces. "If our languages really are the same, then if we order food we know of, then we'll see it on a plate in front of us. If it's a huge coincidence, then we'll end up with something completely different." "If this actually could be a coincidence, then couldn't the appearance of the food also be a coincidence?" Responded the other marine "Who's to say that the languages matching isn't a coincidence? I mean, the Iscandarian hair sample we took at Luna Station showed that our two species are actually genetically compatible. The chances of that are the same as the chances of you waking up on Mars because of quantum force lines. As in, won't ever actually happen within the lifetime of the universe." "Everybody!" Said Praskoviya "Let's forget it for now, we can do a genetic test later. Even though we're genetically compatible, the Iscandarian DNA didn't share any markers with ours. If these people are related to us, we'll know." They looked at the menu for a few more minutes, quickly deciding on what they wanted. Some based on what they knew, others choosing whatever they couldn't understand the meaning of. After they rang the bell, the guard returned. Praskoviya was the first to speak, deciding to stop withholding one piece of information to make up for keeping another secret. "I didn't tell you, but we're at war with the Eternal Union. They launched a surprise attack on our homeland today, right after signing a peace treaty. We can't go in there without our weapons, not with their... powers." Her voice conveyed obvious fear, especially when she mentioned the "powers". Mars The group rushed onto the ship in disarray, a few wounded civilians came as well, running for their lives from anyone else. Satisfied with the load, Oumou closed the hatch and began to frantically tap buttons on the control panel. "VTOL engines engaged!" She yelled, and the aircraft began a steady climb into the air. After a few seconds, it began to tip over, slowly beginning to fall back down to the planet. Nobody seemed afraid though, but they did appear to be checking their seatbelts again. "Firing rockets!" The craft lunged forward, the gravity suddenly became over ten times as powerful as before. It shook constantly, maybe from the air it was cutting through faster than sound, or maybe because of the deafening noise from the primitive engines. Whatever the cause, the humans were quite obviously uncomfortable. Definitely not as uncomfortable as one would expect from someone experiencing a feeling of being ten times heavier. It was obvious that they came from a planet with much higher. A few short minutes later, the shaking and acceleration stopped. The humans looked significantly more nervous now, and tried to steady their breathing. Many closed their eyes and clenched their teeth, one of them turned to the aliens. "Just in case you can understand, this is gonna hurt like hell." "Alright, everyone." Said Oumou "Here we go, maximum acceleration. Good luck everyone." The ship suddenly lurched, and every human fell limp in their seats. The gravity was excruciating, being over a thousand times heavier than it was on the planet. It was a full hour until the craft reached it's destination. It came to a stop inside a large, cylindrical structure. A docking umbilical reached out and connected to it with a loud clunk, and a medical team swarmed the craft. They carried everyone out, injecting them with the same metallic liquid that had been used on the soldier. Knowing that the aliens might wake up naturally, they had brought a diplomat with them. It turned out that they were right, and the aliens woke up just fine. The diplomat floated up to them (there wasn't any artificial gravity, apparently), and eased them into position. "Earth." He pointed out of the window a blue-green planet, mostly covered in water. There was a huge landmass in front of them, an apparently polluted section to the east, a peaceful looking landmass to the far south, a frozen wasteland to the northeast, and a very well developed region to the northeast. It was covered in city lights, barely visible in the dawn. But right under it, there was a region covered in gigantic craters, with no city lights. The diplomat quickly floated in front of it, like he was trying to hide it. "We're taking you to a facility when you can learn our language." He said, his tone much more exaggerated than those of the soldiers when they were talking to each other. He spoke as deliberately as he could, in a soothing way. "Or, perhaps, where we can learn yours. We will monitor your speech, looking for any way to figure it out. We will give you access to all of our files, please, come with me." He gracefully pushed off of the wall, grabbing a handhold near the door with his left hand. With his right hand, he beckoned them to follow him.
