The "is there" is just the best way to describe what's happening--Maddie moving things in and out of the central Page. Because no one can perceive the other Pages aside from her, with a bit of reality bending and moving things in and out, it produces the confusing effect. Other people's minds will try to see where the items are coming from or going into, but the mind just can't, and that extra bit of reality warping finishes up the confusing effect.
