In an era long passed, the world was a place of lawlessness and barbarism. The gods looked upon this miserable place with nothing but pity. Near the center of the world was a rising kingdom. It was a primitive state, ruled by inept kings and corrupted officials, where the people often didn’t even realize they had a ruler at all. Still, in this little chiefdom, it seemed that the spark of civilization might have a kindling. All the people of this place needed was a strong leader to give them structure, and to spread the empire to end the barbaric conditions of the world. The 8 gods of the elements then came to the current king, a pitiful tribal king with only limited control of is subjects. The Gods chose him as their champion, the force that would give humanity order. In him, the powers of Fire, Earth, Water, Air, Electricity, Light, Darkness, and Metal were placed, and he was given orders directly from the gods to raise his people out of ignorance and to spread his control over all the world. It did not take long for the king to bring the people of his realm to his full authority. With the 8 elements at his command, and one who dared to oppose him fell swiftly and made an example to any who dared to oppose him. With his people at command, the King quickly raised an army, and used the new ideas and technology his kingdom produced to quicly take over the west, south and east with almost no effort, and to subjugate the Northern Tribes quite a bit as well. The far southern archipelago kingdom of The Oki Islands became a vassal state as well. Within a campaign of 30 years, the entire world was under the authority of the Elemental King. But power has the ability to make one forget their original goal. Soon, the King had no interest in using his central power to improve humanity. His subjects became little more than Slaves, with his cruelty epitomized by the palace he came to live in. The elemental tower, a metal and stone spire that became the dominating landmark of the centre of the world. Tirelessly crafted by the subjugated people, it stood as a reminder of the purpose of the common man within the king’s lands. The same king that gave people the will and the environment to go from savages to engineers and artists, has created the further decay of humanity. The gods have had enough, unwilling to watch the world they created go into ruin once more. The world needs new heroes, new leaders. And so it is that the gods will each choose a champion, and create a team capable of removing the king and ruling the world as equals. Though they will not realize it, fate will bring them together in one place. But not only will the gods guild them. They will likely find allies in the common people, even those who are willing to aid or join their cause. It is your job as the elemental chosen to fight and vanquish the corrupted king. You will have non elemental allies along the way. All of us will meet in a city in the central region.
The World that the King has conquered is a vast stretch of land with vast oceans on all sides. Some say that beyond the seas there may be other people, like the acestors of the Oki Islanders, but others say it is unlikely the king would have allowed any people to go unconqured. The Regions The world is divided into 6 Geographic regions, each with a distinct culture and landscape. All regions speak the common tongue, but local languages and customs still persist in these places. The Center: The most populous region, the Center is comprised of all land that was originally a part of the King's original possessions and places that were significantly influenced by the original kingdom. The people here speak the common tongue natively, and tend to have blonde hair and pale to lightly tanned skin. The people here mostly live as slave laborers for the king, and the region is dominated by artificially created grassland, laboriously terraformed by the people to make room for the kings monuments. The Center is dominated by the Elemental Tower, which is at the true center of the world. The East: The east is a hot land made mostly of coastline and rivers. The soil is poor, alternating between rough, gravely soil or thick marshes. The majority of the population lives along the sea, either on the coastline or on many colonized island. They survive as fishermen, stone masons, and traders between different regions. The people have thick, curly black hair, dark tanned skin, and the men often sport long beards. The Easterners are extremely family centered people, and often many generations will share the same abode. Their dress is very distinct, similar in appearance to Ancient Greek attire. The West: The West is a land of hardy tribal people. A land of harsh winters and thick forests, the westerners live their lives a semi nomadic people, alternating between city life in the summers and nomadic tribal life in the winter. They speak a very fluid sounding language, and are known for being fierce fighters. The people of the West are distinct for being very tall, with very blonde hair and pale blue eyes persisting in the majority of them. Women of the west more often than not cover themselves with a headscarf as per the tradition of their people. The North: The north is a rough land of pastoral nomads. Having been far removed by massive mountain ranges, the Northerners look vastly different than their southern counterparts. The People of the north have very Asiatic features, and possess dark brown skin and black hair. Their society is based around clans and tribes, who often form alliances to secure feeding grounds for their herds. Most of the population is skilled at horsemanship and metal working as a result of their pastoral lifestyle. They wear warm clothing sewn from the hides of the cattle their herd. The South: The south is mostly open grassland until about halfway, when it turns to dense jungle. The people of the South inhabit the grasslands, and avoid the jungle at all costs. They are largely town dwellers and agricultural farmers. They are very similar in appearance to the northern people, and it is often thought that they are the ancestors of the northern Nomads. They however, are very different culturally, with a very warm, hospitable nature. Well known for perseverance in the face of grave odds. The Oki Islands: The Oki Islanders are an oddity to the world. They do not appear to be related to any other people, and are often thought to have sprung up on their own in the island chain. Oki people are very dark skinned, with jet black hair and brown eyes. They were the only other organized nation for a while, based on a confederation the was guided by an elder representative from each island. When the king arrived, they chose to give up their sovereignty rather than try to fight him. The Oki people are natural island hoppers, and live in a very tropical environment, with much fruit, fish, and natural plant resources. They are arguably the most autonomous region, though this may just be due to the fact that they are sensitive to outside environments, and therefor useless as slaves on the mainland.
