Devika wasn't fooled by Nick's blank eyes. "Nick... don't... don't feel that way, please. It has nothing to do with you." Her gaze flickered downward, even though she tried to bury the shame. "I... I can't date. I just can't. B-bad things will happen, and I like you enough not to let them happen to you." She sighed softly. "That and it would be technically illegal for us to be more than friendly in the state of New York, so... yeah... I doubt things will change by the time you hit 18, though... My powers only seem to get stronger."
