Uncharted world: A bridge to the past

The land scape was barren rock, and large metal (and as scans would reveal, infested) structures rose and fell is artificial ravines, clearly mines to retrieve materials for construction. In the distance were more infested structures. Including shipyards where the hive was apparently preparing to spread further. 
The structures were beyond the capabilities of the primitives that had inhabited the world before hand, which meant that the parasite had built them... Which in its self might be a bad sign.

Then, everything seemed to halt when the ship was detected, as if everything on the planet suddenly died. It was hiding, waiting for the detected prey to investigate and fall into the trap.

It broadcasted an SOS, pretending to be the last survivors of a doomed mining venture who had become trapped under ground. It was likely a transparent guise, considering who they were trying to fool.

As much as the hive pretended to not be there, it certainly wasn't dormant.
