First up, I kinda hate anime. It's not just happy, it's just too fucking melodramatic in everything it does—this includes when they decide to be bleak and grim, they go stupidly bleak and grim and it just loses me. I'd prefer something more like Star Trek, where there's unfathomable dangers out there in space, death can happen, but there nonetheless still manages to be a subtly optimistic note underneath the setting. I've dealt with enough RPers who join darker looking roleplays just to have really moody, brooding characters, and I hate those. They aren't interesting to play with, they aren't interesting to play around, and just... ugh. Yeah, if this DOES end up being something really dark and bleak, I won't be sticking around for it. I mean yes, the setting for us here is fairly grim, but it's also exciting: we're out on the outer edge of the galaxy, we probably don't even have charts that far out, so while the stakes are high we're also pathfinders in unexplored territory. There are horrible things we could encounter, but there is also all the beauty and wonder of the cosmos before us. Focusing only on the grim stuff is just as fucking annoying as only focusing on the happy cheerful stuff.
